“A little piece of paradise”

My husband and I stayed at the cottage for ten nights with our little dog. It was perfect. The kitchen is beautiful and everything is of a high standard. The bathroom leads off the kitchen - it is modern with a very good walk-in shower. The patio doors lead out into the prettiest garden. if you walk down the garden it is like being in a meadow. A lovely place to sit and have a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. The stairs are wooden and are quite small, but we are in our sixties and soon got used to them, they are part of the charm of the place. The bedroom is spotless, light and airy, and leads to another dressing room where there is a wardrobe and space for cases. We visited Sherborne, Shaftesbury and Salisbury for days out. We even went to the local pub - Thomas Hardy based his 'Pure Drop' in Tess of the D'Urbervilles on The Crown Inn. It was a much needed break after lockdown - we loved it. Thank you Anabel.

Kitchen and dining area were so well equipped and led into a beautiful wild garden. The owner had thought of everything and also gave us the privacy we wanted. We too our little puppy with us and he enjoyed the garden and living area and the walks available to us locally.

“We booked this accommodation on the day we wanted our getaway to start.”

The booking experience was great - Thank you. The Cottage is wonderful and had everything we needed for our stay. It really was a home from home. It's comfy, cosy, peaceful and a lovely place to be. We didn't want to leave after our long weekend stay. We cooked lovely meals using food from the local farm shop and enjoyed sitting in the garden in the sunshine. Thank you to Anabel for making the cottage a great place to come relax and for telling us about the farm shop. We would recommend this cottage for a getaway - it has the best of both worlds - to be surrounded by lovely countryside but can also be on the beach in an hour. A great place to combine the two elements of country and coastal.

“A beautiful cottage hidden in rural North Dorset.”

It was so peaceful and beautiful we can't help but relax when we come here. The garden is beautiful, and to sit in the evening sun on the terrace is magical. It has the best of both worlds-- all mod cons with a luxurious feel but a timeless quality. Lots to see and do nearby: Stourhead Gardens are glorious and Shaftesbury and Sherborne both have lovely boutique shops and good coffee spots. At the end of the lane is Duncliffe, an ancient wooded hill preserved by the woodland trust. A walk through the bluebells in Spring is not to be missed. The Grosvenor Hotel in Shaftesbury is worth a mention for morning coffee and on previous trips we've had great pub meals at the Forester in Donhead St Andrew and the Stapleton Arms in Buckhorn Weston. Just had a couple of days here this time but as always it felt like we'd been completely restored.

“Searching a home base for Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, Abbotts Cottage was the best choice I could ever made.”

All sight seeings are easy to reach - the Jurassic Coast, Montacute House, Glastonbury, or Stonehenge. Located in a beautiful garden, the cottage offers all the comfort you could wish for. Cleverly, the rural part is complemented by the very modern kitchen and the comfortable bathroom . The decor is lovingly and lacks for nothing. The dining room offers a fantastic view to the garden, which can be enjoyed even on rainy days. A private parking space leaves nothing to be desired. I have very much enjoyed my holiday and felt very well at all times.

“We enjoyed our stay very much in this cosy and very comfortable cottage.”

The modern kitchen is very well-equipped with everything you need for preparing hot and cold meals. The dining area with the wonderful view of the patio and garden is very light and pleasant. It's a real home from home. Anabel is a very kind and helpful landlady. Thank you very much for two wonderful holiday weeks.

“Peaceful cottage down a quiet country lane.”

Lovely cottage with fantastic facilities - everything that you might need is provided and so much thought has been put into everything. The garden is a haven for wildlife and we spent most of the time bird watching! We would highly recommend this cottage and I'm sure we will stay again.

A very cosy, warm cottage, superbly equipped, with washer dryer, fully equipped kitchen, TV etc - even various board games - the owners have put a lot of thought into ensuring a great stay. Spent Christmas at this wonderful cottage, and enjoyed a very relaxing, cosy break. Thoughtful touches from the owner (card and Christmas cake) rounded off my stay.

The property

Abbotts Cottage is a delightful cottage, located in the Stour Provost conservation area.

The cottage has been recently refurbished and extended in a contemporary style, though it still manages to retain its period charm, of which it has plenty, with its traditional stone walls and narrow staircase. The moment you walk through the garden gate you will be able to appreciate the owner's obvious love of gardening and this beautiful cottage garden (and its produce) is yours to enjoy.

Perfect for a couple or family with very young children, it's a snug and cosy place to retreat to lying as it does on a quiet country lane, just four miles from Shaftesbury.

If you don't fancy venturing too far, you'll find the private patio and garden a wonderful place to enjoy a meal or a glass of something nice during the summer months. However, please be warned......this is probably one of our most romantic cottages, with no less than five proposals of marriage here in the last few years!!

SHAFTESBURY

Salisbury 21 miles; Bath 30 miles.

One of Dorset’s prettiest and most historic towns, Shaftesbury is perched on a spur of rolling green hills, and the views in all directions are without comparison. Lush green meadows, woodland glades and outstanding architecture are all within a short walk. One of the best vantage points is from Gold Hill (Ridley Scott's famous Hovis advert was filmed here) with its quaint, cobbled and very steep street. Visit the ruins of Shaftesbury Abbey (a place of great pilgrimage from the 11th century) or navigate the intricate and ancient lanes. Bath, Salisbury and Sherborne are all under an hour away, or drive through the stunning countryside of Blackmoor Vale down to the coast at Poole, Bournemouth and Weymouth. A beautiful area, that still carries the flavour of the very best of the English countryside.

Note: Due to the nature of this property, please take care as there are low beams, doorways and a steep spiral staircase with no hand rail.
