We enjoyed supper on our last night in the local pub as recommended in the owners notes - a tough drive on a filthy night along twisty single track roads. We left a sheet of notes pointing out the bedroom wall lights that weren't working; the difficulty in knowing which of the kitchen mixer taps to turn to get hot water ( I can only think the two supply pipes are next to each other for some distance); and the fact that the hot water from the tap and shower is barely hot enough. Otherwise very good and comfortable facilities in a very attractive area. The cottage is well adapted for a wheel chair user, but potential users perhaps need advising that the area is pretty hilly and that off road tyres would be helpful to enjoy the best of what the area can offer - it's beautiful hills, valleys and coast. We enjoyed visiting Thomas Hardy's house and cottage (NT) on a wet day; explored the quarries and coast of Portland Bill; walked over Golden Cap, and did other walks more local to the cottage.

The property

Stables Cottage is a delightful conversion that incorporates many traditional features, is located next to the owner’s home a mile away from the wonderful village of Long Bredy. Most noticeable are the beautiful beams in the full height open plan living area with dining table for four and well-equipped kitchen, the beautiful wood burner takes centre stage to create a cosy and homely feeling.

All accommodation being on one level, it is suitable for guests with mobility impairment and the property has been awarded the Mobility Impairment M2 award by Visit England. Hang your coats in the lobby after a walk amongst the beautiful countryside that surrounds the area, or a brisk walk to the nearby town of Little Bredy with gorgeous church and lake and Littlebredy walled gardens. Tucked away behind the farm house in its own private and secluded spot, the lovely terrace is a delightful sun trap, perfect for relaxing with a good book and a glass of something delicious.

The eye-catching country views and a secret swing seat has the best views across to the coast line, another perfect spot for just relaxing and enjoying the bird song and Dorset countryside.

Having relaxed into countryside life you may decide you want to experience all that a visit to the coast offers.

Stables cottage is ideally placed being just a short drive from the Jurassic coastline and several vibrant towns and villages, including Burton Bradstock, Hive Beach and West Bay.

The towns of Bridport and Dorchester aren't far away either. West Bay is gorgeous with crumbling golden cliffs of sand and a beach, a perfect place to spend the day.

The beautiful and tallest cliff on the South coast called Golden cap is just a short walk away too. If you want to explore further afield, the Isle of Portland, Chesil beach and Weymouth are a short drive to the East, Charmouth and Lyme Regis to the West.

Lyme Regis is famous for fossil hunting, have a go at finding a souvenir to bring home! The nearest pub from the property is in Litton Cheney village offering traditional foods and drinks for all the family to enjoy.

There are plenty of options in every village towards Bridport or Weymouth, the choice is yours. The market town of Bridport with many shops and restaurants and a market offering fresh local produce is a short drive away from the property.

To the East you have a beautiful seaside town of Weymouth with a big events programme throughout the year, and a sandy beach with shallow waters, ideal for kids. Stables Cottage really is the perfect rural retreat for couples or a small family.
