“Walking in to the heating & lamps on a dark, dreary, rainy November evening made our first impressions of Rose Lodge as a cosy & welcoming base for a birthday weekend with 5 adults in the age range 21-62 & a dog.”
Everything was spotless. The beds were super comfy & the rooms were generous with some lovely personal touches (& very quiet & dark).
The kitchen is well equipped. Although we appreciate that some guests welcome a dishwasher, personally a cupboard to store food would have been more useful for us.
The lovely surprise of a bottle of wine, sausages, bacon, eggs, milk, coffee beans & teabags, loo rolls (!) was really appreciated, thank you!

Our only issue was when all the lights tripped due to a fault with the outside light due to the rain. The owner tried to rectify it but unfortunately couldn’t. However, her children came down with three extra table lamps to get us through the night & even their battery pumpkin light, bless. Once it dried out the next day, the electrics went back to normal but it would have made things a bit difficult if it had not (especially as there is no window in the shower room & the spiral staircase is a little challenging holding a torch).
We didn’t have time to fish on this trip but the lakes looked well maintained & we will be tempted back.
Although the decor is a little tired & the runners on the shower door need some maintenance, we loved the lodge - especially the care taken by the owners to make it clean, cosy & welcoming.
