    “Property very tired and in need of some TLC.”

    Door lock needs attention, locked in on one occasion and locked out on one occasion; managed to wiggle and fiddle the thumb turn when locked in, and the same with the key when locked out, to eventually unlock the door, others may not be so lucky! Controls on electric shower are faulty and potentially a risk of scalding, very difficult to achieve a comfortable temperature setting. Outside seating? Where to start? Picnic table okay, but garden chairs and side table in very poor condition. Large ...

NO WARNING of electric fence used to divide the field shared with grazing sheep, a bit of a shock for visiting dogs! Local Information provided very limited and publications years out of date, no ice tray, no coasters to protect furniture, no condiments provided, missing light bulb in lounge/dining area, faulty window locks, mould on bathroom blind, broom missing from storage cupboard, mop head needs changing

The property

Washingpools is an old farming term for the area where sheep used to be dipped and is now a lovely holiday home situated at the edge of West Bexington, a coastal village in Dorset. Sleeping two people, it is an ideal retreat for couples who have pets as the property welcomes two well-behaved dogs. The interior is well-furnished and cosy with a kitchen/dining room/sitting room, comfortable bedroom and shower room, all you need for a self-catering holiday. Settle down in this snug little cottage reminiscent of times gone by, turn the clock back and fully unwind.

A short hop and skip across two fields and you will find yourself directly on a stretch of the world-famous Chesil Beach loved by fishermen, birdwatchers and walkers.

A little tea room is within walking distance following the path across the field, ideal to relax with a cup of tea after a walk or just head home to your comfy, compact, cottage sheltered from the outside busy world.

Take off your wellies and warm your feet by the log burner with a book or a glass of red.

There is a small farm shop in the village where you can buy fresh local produce, but the nearest full-week working shop is a few miles away in Burton Bradstock village.

A bit further is the market town of Bridport with many shops, supermarket and a farmer’s market if you need to do a bigger shop. The seaside town of Weymouth with its golden award-winning beach is a few miles to West.

Washingpools may be small, but it's a perfect base with charm and character to get away with your loved one to the countryside and also be close to the sea.

About the location

WEST BEXINGTON

Abbotsbury 3 miles; Bridport 6 miles.

Lying next to the sea and Chesil Beach, equidistant between Burton Bradstock and Abbotsbury, is the small village of West Bexington. This is a stunning area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as an area of Special Scientific Interest - pebbled Chesil Beach, which extends for 14 miles, from Burton Bradstock to the Portland peninsula, is part of the Jurassic Coast and now a World Heritage Site. Fishermen and walkers are well provided for, as a great variety of fish can be caught at any time of year, and the South West Coastal Path runs right alongside the beach. Only confident swimmers should attept to swim here, but Weymouth, offering lovely, gently shelving sands, is only a short drive away. There's lots to see and do within easy reach of the village. No journey to this area would be complete without a visit to picturesque Abbotsbury, 3 miles, with its Swannery, Tithe Barn and Sub Tropical Gardens, with Dorchester, Bridport, and Lyme Regis all within easy reach.

Note: whilst part of Washingpool's charm is being 'off the beaten track' and surrounded by countryside, please be aware that the access is quite literally off the beaten track! There is a short drive of 2-3 minutes down a private road which is bumpy and unmade in places. The last 20 yards from the parking area is on foot down a concrete slope to a small metal walkway over a pretty little stream and then a few steps across grass to the front door. Please do not deviate from the concreted area as you may get stuck in the mud.
Note: please take care when turning your car, there is a bump in the concrete paving and grass opposite so stay on the paved area whilst turning.
Note: we advise arriving in daylight to find the access lane and onward to the property. Please bring a torch if arriving in the dark.
