“The location is fantastic with an amazing view over the park to the sea and the Isle of Portland.”

Everyone enjoyed sitting on the balcony, admiring the view and people-watching. So many places are just a quick car journey away. Easy to walk into town or to Chesil Beach. A small sandy beach just a few minutes' walk (down a side path and some wooden steps). Although there is little road noise, there was quite a lot of people noise including the metal shutter of the cafe opposite rattling up any time from 7.30am every morning. My children were also disturbed by the noise of partying from the house/footpath behind. Sadly, we were very disappointed at the cleanliness of the house. The extractor fan had dark brown grease on it, I did not feel comfortable using the damaged and dirty microwave. There was little room for our food despite the fact that there was lots of equipment to cook, although not sure anybody will need four sauce boats. There were crumbs over the work surfaces and sofa, the bath still had the previous occupant's wet bath mat and hair, there were hairballs on the carpeted bedroom floors. The paint on the walls of the smallest bedroom (which is tiny) was badly scuffed in many places. As has been noted by several people, it is a bit awkward climbing into the bath (high sided bath with screen fixed along half of it and a shower overhead). Not suitable for bathing small children or for anyone with mobility issues. It does look like nothing has been done to the house (other than a hand rail in the shower) since we were there in 2021. It is a real shame because the house's location is amazing.

The property

Sea King House is a contemporary three-story terraced house located in the popular resort town of Weymouth, Dorset.

Sea King House is a fantastic dog-friendly dwelling for couples or a family of five, plus two canine companions, embarking on their next Dorset getaway.

The property boasts a superb location along the coast with stunning views looking out towards Weymouth Bay and Portland harbour.

Step inside the house to find a handy utility room with a washing machine for your convenience along with a cloakroom.

Climb the stairs to the first floor, where you can prepare delectable home-cooked meals in the well-equipped kitchen, which includes a dishwasher, and tuck-in at the dining table for five or alfresco out on the rear patio.

After supper, take advantage of the nicer weather by sipping your favourite beverage on the balcony whilst admiring the views of Sandsfoot Gardens and the magnificent castle remains.

Curl up on the plush seating in the sitting room as the evening cools and choose a family favourite from the TV with DVD player.

Make your way to the second floor, where you can relax in the bath or freshen up with a shower before selecting from one of three well-appointed bedrooms: a double, a twin, or a single.

Explore your immediate surroundings, where you visit Sandsfoot Castle and Gardens and take in the spectacular sweeping bay views or grab your swimsuits and towels and head directly to Castle Cove Beach.

Enjoy the picturesque Rodwell Trail, which follows a disused railway line, into town if you fancy a leisurely stroll.

Once you've arrived in the lively town, there are plenty of friendly pubs, restaurants, and cafes to suit any taste and budget.

You can also try your hand at golf at the superb Weymouth Golf Club, watch the world go by at the harbour, or explore the amazing Victorian Nothe Fort and gardens.

The flourishing seafront, which is dotted with amusements, the wildlife-rich RSPB Radipole Lake, Sea Life Centre, and the gorgeous Weymouth Beach, where you may bathe or take to the waves on a kayak, canoe, or surfboard, are among the town's other attractions.

The next stop is Dorchester, which is home to the National Trust site of Max Gate, the former home of the great literary, Thomas Hardy.

You can also visit the historic sites of the Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum, the Dorset Museum, and the Roman Townhouse, or if that isn't your thing, follow the Thomas Hardy Trail or visit the nearby Kingston Maurward Animal Park and Gardens.

For a memorable getaway, choose Sea King House.

About the location

CASTLE COVE

Weymouth 2.1 miles; Dorchester 8.8 miles; Lyme Regis 28.5 miles.

Castle Cove is a firm favourite with locals, sitting alongside the Rodwell trail area, Castle Cove Beach is usually uncrowded, and offers safe bathing from its gently sloping shoreline. There are two main beach areas, Castle Cove, new steps to the beach opened early in 2019, and Sandsfoot beach, both with soft golden sand and the vibe of the best kept secret. Sandsfoot castle is just two minutes’ walk from the beach where you will find castle ruins, pretty, award-winning gardens and a small café, offering snacks, drinks and ice-creams. Accessed off Old Castle Road in Weymouth, this area is a real treat for those who want to be away from the buzz and bright lights of the traditional Weymouth Seafront, and yet close enough to venture there when they choose. When you are on the beach you could be forgiven for thinking you are miles from town, and yet you are only within easy reach of the old Harbour and access to Weymouth town centre. If you want to know where the locals would recommend you spend your beach days, then Castle Cove and Sandsfoot beaches are it.
