“Idyllic location right opposite the duck pond.”

The ducks were wonderful and the weeping willow trees over the pond are stunning. On arrival it was lovely to be greeted by a bottle of Fizz, a pot of local jam and a little bag of duck food which was a lovely touch. Also baileys and port offerings for evening nightcap was a nice surprise. However I was a bit disappointed to find that there was no milk or sugar to go with the tea provided. (I had travelled for 4.5 hours by train and taxi and so in order to have my much needed cuppa, I walked 20 mins to a local store and 20 mins back to buy the provisions by which time the rest of the family had arrived by car). There was also no dishwasher tablets but this was immediately put right by calling the owner who delivered them while we were out. Unfortunately in the meantime I couldn't wash up by hand either as there was also no washing up liquid. The cottage itself was homely with good size bedrooms but could have been cleaner. The main bedroom has wallpaper peeling off the top left hand corner. You can't watch ITV on that room's TV as you need a password. The ensuite shower leaks under the unit, there was used soap in the soap dish and the basin surround needs redecorating (looks like tiles/splashback has been removed?). However the main bathroom was really nice and inviting for a long soak with luxury bubble bath provided. Some of the glasses, mugs and utensils were a bit grubby. And unfortunately the downstairs smelt quite strongly of dog (I realise its a dog friendly cottage but maybe better cleaning/room spray could be considered). There could be more information on local buses in the cottage. And perhaps a taxi number or two. The back garden is quite barren. It could do with some pots, flowers, fairy lights, etc to make it more inviting. And the table had just 4 chairs when there were six of us. All in all we enjoyed our stay. The Village is gorgeous and there are some lovely walks around including just 45 minutes to the beach. There are some lovely pubs nearby especially the Bridge Inn which is just down the road which I highly recommend. Very welcoming with fabulous food. However, for the price of this cottage, it really does need smartening up with more attention to detail regarding cleanliness, decor and provisions.
