“We arrived at the cottage and it was even more amazing than the photos on the website.”

It was so cute with lots of room. The big back room with a sofa and used as a games room didn’t get used as after being out and about all day we spent our evenings in the front room. There was every utility as if it was home to home. Towels toilet roll and a basket full of coffee tea sugar and milk and biscuits . The bedrooms were big and very comfy beds and pillows. A beautiful large front garden, enclosed . A little patio from the back games room that leads you all the way round to the ...

A little patio from the back games room that leads you all the way round to the front . All enclosed for dogs. We took our spaniel and it was very secure. The only one very small negative , the cottage is down a small lane next to a church . Luckily with just one car we managed to get a parking space just passed the cottage. Although there is a space outside the cottage under the dining room table window the neighbour who lived opposite would park his van there every night so when sitting at the table the van blocks the window . We could have parked there ourselves during the day but felt like we couldn’t because he obviously parks there all the time. So more than one car would probably be a problem. Over all we had the best week there and didn’t want to leave the cottage. There is a beautiful pub with amazing food 2 mins walk called the Sunray . And everything else to visit is within 15 mins drive , Weymouth front , Durdle door Portland bill light house . And local shops Tesco home bargains and everything you need . Also a lovely dairy farm shop 5 mins walk away. Thank you for the most enjoyable lovely week will definitely return to this gorgeous cottage .

The property

Lychgate Cottage is a beautifully traditional thatched cottage located in the heart of the centuries old village of Osmington, near Weymouth.

A beautifully traditional detached thatched cottage, dating back to C1500, located in the heart of the centuries old village of Osmington in Dorset.

This two bedroomed chocolate box cottage has so much charm and character.

Sit and relax on the corner sofa admiring the beamed ceiling and exposed stonework in the sitting room.

Or on warm summer’s evening enjoy the peace of seclusion of the lawned garden at the front of the cottage or on the patio area.

There is also a lower sitting room with another TV with Wii console for games, which leads onto a patio garden. Winding village lanes are bordered by grey stone thatched cottages in this picture postcard location.

The village is well served with Craig's Farm Dairy where you can buy milk from the cows in the fields surrounding the village and their speciality ice-cream - arguably the best in the county!

Next to Lychgate Cottage is St Osmund's Church, sections of which date back to 1200 - do visit and marvel at this history.

Why not book a table or pop in for a drink at The Sunray in Osmington village.Serving food all day offering seasonal, locally sourced menus with a focus on fresh Dorset produce. Keen walkers are spoilt with options of exploring the surrounding coast at Ringstead and Osmington Mills.

Ringstead is a pebbly beach which is often quiet, even in the height of the summer.

The Smugglers at Osmington Mills is a famous hostelry serving good food.

A drive to the beaches at Weymouth which is around 6 miles and Lulworth, around 10 miles, is perfect for indulging in sand castle making (Weymouth) and ice creams, making a perfect day out.

The character, charm and costal setting of this cottage make the perfect place to spend your holiday in Dorset.

About the location

OSMINGTON

Weymouth 4.8 miles; Bournemouth 31 miles.

Osmington village, sits on the Jurassic coastline of Dorset, just 6 miles from Weymouth with it’s infamous beach and historic harbour and just 11 miles from Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Home to the famous Chalk hillside carving of George III on horseback, cut into the hillside to commemorate the Royal visits to Weymouth, this landmark can be seen from miles away. It is also the place that John Constable spent his honeymoon in 1816 and where he completed his painting of Weymouth Bay that now hangs in the National Gallery. The South West Coastal path runs through Osmington Mills, a tiny hamlet on the edge of Osmington. Here many walkers start their coast path walks at the Smugglers inn, where reputedly there are historic connections to smuggling. Be sure to visit to find out all the stories. A short drive will see you reach a local convenience store at Preston. Weymouth offers a larger variety of shopping, eating and entertainment choices.

Please note; the path leading to the cottage is rocky and uneven. The property has a typical narrow staircase. Both of these will need to be considered when booking this property especially for those with mobility issues.
Note: Please note gardener will attend property every two weeks between March - Oct and access will be required to garden.
