“We arrived at 5pm to a freezing cottage which we’ve experienced before, especially in winter.”

The heating had not been on for a while. We turned it on and lit the fire (fortunately we bought our own logs and there was none at all there to even get you started). It took 24 hours to be properly warm. There was no welcome pack of any description. We’ve always been left a few basics, milk, bottle of wine, biscuits etc so that was disappointing. There was no cleaning materials (we went to purchase our own) to wipe the kitchen surfaces with and a tiny dishcloth but there was washing up ...

There was no cleaning materials (we went to purchase our own) to wipe the kitchen surfaces with and a tiny dishcloth but there was washing up liquid. The beds were comfy and the Cottage was clean. The showers weren’t great but electric showers generally aren’t sadly. The fridge was on the coldest setting but our food didn’t feel properly chilled which was a worry. The sofas are tired but fairly comfortable. The TV had Netflix and other apps so long as you have an account already which we did. Unfortunately several of us were bitten (in the lounge area primarily) by all we can assume was fleas as the property allows pets (we didn’t bring one) this has been raised with the management and owners who have said they will deal with the issue. The parking space at the back really isn’t a space unless you have a very small car. We have a Mercedes GLC and the area is shared with the neighbour who lives there. Unfortunately she doesn’t park right up against her side and she also has a fairly large car so we were unable to park beside her as it would have either blocked her in or her then blocking us in and we didn’t want to upset anyone or have any damage to our car, so we parked on the road which is very narrow and no lighting at night so very dark. We worried if the car would be safe, thankfully nothing happened but be aware that if you can’t get parked opposite and your car is of a normal/large size there is no where else to park as lanes are narrow and the farmer seems to need full access at all times in any areas where you potentially could park. All in all however we had a nice stay and were grateful to the owners getting the cottage turned around so as could go on Boxing Day.

I am glad that you had a nice stay at Pippins but sorry to hear the cottage was cold on your arrival. We do ask the cleaners to turn the heating down between guests and as it would be very wasteful to leave it on high but I have asked in future that they turn it up 24-48 hours before guests arrival during winter if there has been a gap between bookings. I also asked about the welcome pack as there is always a supply of tea, coffee, milk and sugar in the cottage on the counter top by the kettle plus they buy local Moores biscuits and leave them on the table so I don't know what happened but please accept my apologies if this was not the case on this occasion. We do allow pets at the cottage and we have never had a problem with this in 14 seasons but obviously we rely on guests being responsible pet owners. Regarding parking I will contact the neighbour although we have a big car and have never had a problem parking next to her. However if you have a second car or want to park on the road outside we recommend parking just uphill of the entrance off the road on the same side as the cottage as the road is much wider here and you benefit from the lighting from the farmyard next door and we have never had an issue parking there. About the location

BRIDPORT

Lyme Regis 10 miles; West Bay 2 miles.

The attractive market town of Bridport grew up around the River Brit, and was shaped by its extensive history of rope and net making. The long, wide streets and alleyways between the houses were once where the flax strands were twisted into rope, while today those streets are filled with an interesting variety of shops, restaurants and inns. Bridport’s market is regularly featured on the River Cottage TV programme. 2 miles south of Bridport is the dramatic Jurassic coast at West Bay, now a World Heritage Site, home to the backdrop for TV's Harbour Lights and the coastal setting for popular Broadchurch, whilst the picturesque resort of Lyme Regis is within 10 miles. A superb base for exploring wonderful West Dorset.
