  • “The only disappointing aspect of the cottage was that the garden is not completely secure for an active and inquisitive dog of medium size or above.”

This meant that I had to keep my dog on the lead at all times if I wanted to sit outside, which was not what I had expected. This could be easily rectified by covering the low gap in the fence on the right hand side just above the patio, and by removing the compost heap from against the wall at the top right of the garden which my dog immediately climbed to get on top of the wall! The gardener came to cut the grass while I was there and I pointed this out to her for the sake of future guests ...

The gardener came to cut the grass while I was there and I pointed this out to her for the sake of future guests. She said she intended to replace the compost heap with bins in due course, and would mention the low fence so that the gap can be fixed. In the meantime I think this should be pointed out to people with dogs who are booking Appletree Cottage as the description says it is 'an enclosed garden'.

The property

A chocolate box cottage complete with roses around the door, Apple Tree Cottage is in the heart of Burton Bradstock next to the post office.

This quaint village is made up of cute thatched cottages, twisting country lanes, pretty gardens and a picturesque river.

With it’s cosy sitting room/study with a log effect gas fire and kitchen breakfast room that leads into the cottage garden you can be assured of the full cottage experience.

The village has a shop and choice of two pubs each serving good food and ales and the village tea rooms are there for morning coffee or afternoon tea.

The beach is an easy walk from the cottage and has wonderful cliff views, access to the South West coast path and a highly commended beach cafe called 'The Hive' which serves a variety of local food and drinks.

An outing to West Bay, which is approximately three miles away, gives you a chance to explore the colourful fishing harbour and to sample locally caught crabs and lobsters as well as local ice cream.

Haddon House is often recommended for Sunday lunch.

The Market Town of Bridport with it’s famous antiques market is just 4 miles drive away and worth a visit.

If you dream of finding fossil’s then the beautiful Charmouth beach is a short drive to the west from Apple Tree cottage.
