The property

Mill Cottage is a charming reverse-level dwelling in the lovely village of Upwey in the Dorset AONB, which offers the ideal base for a couple's getaway.

This sustainable property, a Water Mill site, is believed to be the basis for Overcombe Mill in Thomas Hardy’s novel, The Trumpet Major, and takes its energy from the Millrace.

This picturesque cottage provides all the needs for a convenient self-catered stay, including an open-plan living space, a private garden, and a well-equipped kitchen and is only a short drive from the bustling areas of Weymouth and Dorchester.

Ascending the stairs to the living space, relax, prepare meals, and dine whilst lighting the woodburning stove, curling up on the plush sofas, and dining around the table for two.

In the warmer months, why not step outside for an alfresco affair that offers a river side tranquil setting.

Back inside, move to the ground floor where you'll find the sleek bathroom and roomy double bedroom.

Make use of the neighbourhood amenities with a visit to The Wishing Well Tea Room, just 200 yards from your doorstep, serving morning coffee, lunches and teas before travelling to the coast and visiting Weymouth's numerous attractions, such as the Jurassic Coast, SEA LIFE Centre Weymouth, Sandworld Weymouth, and RSPB Radipole Lake.

The Weymouth Beach Walking Trail, which offers breath-taking views of the surrounding shore, the Weymouth Museum, Nothe Fort, which offers 360-degree vistas, and the exhilarating activities at Alexandra Gardens are further attractions.

The Dorset Museum and The Keep Military Museum in Dorchester's city centre are also close by, and Kingston Maurward Animal Park and Gardens, where you can feed and pet numerous farm animals amongst tranquil gardens, is the perfect pit stop for animal lovers.

Mill Cottage really is a home-from-home.

About the location

UPWEY

Dorchester 4.5 miles; Weymouth 4 miles.

The picturesque village of Upwey lies just four miles north of Weymouth, nestling beneath the Dorset Ridgeway, and takes its name from the shallow chalk stream, the River Wey, which bubbles up here from an underground spring. Upwey is well-known for its Wishing Well, where George III once sought the benefits of the natural spring water. It is now a delightful tea room, serving lunches and traditional cream teas. There are a number of footpaths leading directly from the village to miles of unspoilt countryside, and close by is the market town of Dorchester, Thomas Hardy’s ’Casterbridge’. An easy drive or bus ride takes you to the popular seaside resort of Weymouth offering visitors glorious golden sandy beaches, excellent watersports facilities and a bustling harbour. An attractive village location and an ideal place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Please note: The owners live on site therefore the double white gates must be closed at all times due to the possibility of the owners' dog roaming the grounds.

Please note: There is flowing water at the front and rear of the property. Also at the rear, is machinery that will operate automatically without warning.
