Hosted to commemorate the town’s important role during the Second World War, Weymouth’s Armed Forces Weekend is hosted during the height of summer each year, drawing in current and ex-servicemen, their families and members of the public to watch and take part in the event. Taking place over a 3-day period, the first day kicks off with a display of historic military vehicles along the seafront, where you’ll also hear plenty of music from the 1940s and a host of information and awareness stands.
The following day is set aside for the big parade and veterans service, which take place along the esplanade and around the Weymouth Cenotaph. Then, on the final day, the ceremonial flag raising takes place outside the town hall and a host of other public buildings across Weymouth. The sister festival of the once-beloved but now defunct Bestival, Camp Bestival, was launched in 2008 as a family-friendly alternative to the main festival. Hosted at the historic Lulworth Castle estate, this event is due to return to Weymouth in 2025 and is expected to host around 10,000 attendees. This is one of our favourite festivals in Dorset!
During this 4-day event, apart from the multi-stage lineup of acts that’ll be performing, guests can expect to find plenty of stalls selling food and drink, as well as a host of comedy acts and plenty of stuff to do for children as well.
