About the location

WESTON, PORTLAND

Fortuneswell 1.8 miles; Weymouth 6.7 miles; Dorchester 14.3 miles; West Bay 21.9 miles.

Weston is a village on top of the Isle of Portland, in Dorset. Right next to the village of Easton and Southwell it forms a key part of life on Portland. Now designated a conservation area and place of special architectural and historic interest it’s a unique place to stay. Portland Bill is a 30-minute walk along one of the many walk paths across the Isle of Portland. Portland is renowned for being a place to see wildlife with owls inhabiting the west cliffs. St Georges Church is a short walk away and is open to the public, where you are allowed to ring its iconic bell. The cemetery has many fine monuments and gravestones, all carved from the finest Portland stone. Portland stone was also used to construct St Pauls Cathedral. Many of the local churchs and buildings have been built using the same techniques and are eye catching in their own right. Portland is most recently famous for it’s role in the 2012 Olympics and the National Sailing Academy is situated in the harbour, the perfect destination for water sport enthusiasts. Chesil beach protects the road to Portland and Portland harbour from prevailing tides and this large stone bank beach is breath taking in it’s scale. Portland is a really special location that is a pure delight to explore.
