Brickyard Cottage

We stayed at this property back in 2019 and was so looking forward to coming back especially as the contact had said it had been refurbished.

Unfortunately we were very disappointed, firstly the overwhelming smell of dogs in the lounge and dining area the first thing we had to buy was fabreeze which didn't make any difference. 2nd issue was no heating although May the weather was cold and the only heat was heated towel rail in bathroom and a radiator in the bedroom nothing in the lounge after contacting the owner several times they finally got the heating on 4 days after arrival I think this is a bad judgement that they can make the call to turn the radiators off. 3rd issue after using Sykes for many years so many properties really make a effort with supplying the basics, besides a pint of milk and 4 teabags and 4 sachets of sugar nothing else it makes such a difference to holiday makers to have things like tin foil, food bags or even clingfilm,we had to go and purchase everything we feel for the money you pay these basics should be available. Other than that the location is still fabulous we use the train to get everywhere to all the great places this area offers.

The property was a delight to stay in with great facilities and wonderfully equipped.

Our dog got really excited by the train noise but was no real problem. On arrival the cottage was spotless and I hope we left it in as good order as we found it.

Lovely cottage - very clean and comfortable with lots of welcoming touches - water out for our dogs and tea and biscuits for us.

My grandchildren loved playing in the garden and picking apples off the tree. Would definitely stay here again!

Cosy little house.

Very clean when we arrived. Lots of interesting places to visit (Clouds Hill, Tank Museum, etc.) are very close by. Also Dorchester and Weymouth are easy to reach. Nice pub across the street. Only negative points are the closeness of the railway line and the regular noises of the crossing and the train whistling and the limited parking in the vicinity.

This is a lovely little property that is conveniently located close to the train station.

The train station is great as it helps avoid the very busy car parks in Weymouth, and my four year old loved spotting the trains. There wasn't too much noise and the garden was peaceful with comfortable garden furniture. The host was warm and considerate. She had thought of lots of little touches, such as leaving the water and biscuit for our dog, a child's drink the the fridge, a nightlight in our child's room, drawing materials in the cupboard. There was care and thought put into the stay. The wifi was excellent when we stayed and I was able to do a Teams meeting on the one day I had to work while I was at the property. I saw some other reviews on another site saying that the property was outdated but the cottage is decorated in a style that is appropriate for a cottage! It is very cosy and very sweet.The paint was fresh and the beds were very clean. We would definitely stay again and think this is a great base for exploring the area.

A lovely cosy quite British cottage with a nice garden to relax.

We have already spent some holidays there. The owner is always very helpful, just give her a ring. The fact that we keep coming back shows that we feel quite at home.

A very helpful and friendly owner. A well situated Cottage for exploring the Jurassic Coast of South Dorest. Lovely pub across the road and handy supermarket 2 minute drive away. We would definitely consider a second booking in the future.

Near to everything were we went. Lovely comfy cottage. Everything you needed in the cottage. Our puppy dog loved the beaches everyday. Lovely county pub food. We are big walkers so it was stunning views walking the coast line. We will be back. Owners very pleasant to speak with. Weather was perfect for our holiday. Xx

A clean and comfortable two-bedroom cottage with a great secure grass lawned garden which was fabulous for our two dogs.

Wonderful summer house housing seating table sun parasol and barbecue and buckets and spades. The only thing that could be improved was the shower which was a little lack lustre due to low water pressure I'm guessing but it was hot. As we went in April it was often raining and it was lovely to get in and be really warm. The beds were very comfy. Exceptionally clean house with lots of games to play in the cupboard. The kitchen was well equipped. We really enjoyed our visit. family of four.

Yes we loved our stay…we have recommended to our friends and family and one friend is already sorting a booking for next year…

Lovely clean and comfortable cottage, had a relaxing stay.

As my husband and myself are of a mature age the stairs for upstairs are steep and could be difficult if you have arthritis or similar issues. As read in previous reviews you can hear the level crossing bells when trains come through but you get used to this very quickly. trains to Weymouth in 20 minutes was great. Gave a break from driving. Had a lovely break.Dorset is a great county to visit. Thank you.

We had a lovely stay.

The property was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. The garden was very secure for our two small dogs. The location was great to travel around the area. We would recommend this cottage to a friend.

It was cosy clean and in the perfect location for visiting a lot of things in the local area. It was nice having the garden to sit in and the neighbours were friendly. The milk and tea and coffee were lovely touches. We had a wonderful time and will probably be back.

We had a great time at Brickyard cottage.

If you're using the cottage solely as a base for days out, the cottage is more than adequate. I wouldn't choose it solely to spend the week indoors as it lacks a couple of creature comforts (tumble dryer being the number one item). It could do with an update to the decor and facilities but maybe I'm nitpicking. The house was spotlessly clean and accommodated our family of four without a problem. Be aware that the fourth bed is a 'truckle bed' which is narrower and shorter than a normal single. This was perfectly fine for my younger child, but it wouldn't accommodate a teenager. We knew about this in advance, so it wasn't an issue for us. The house is just across the road from The Frampton Arms pub (great food) and Moreton railway station. This means you can hop on the train into Dorechester and Weymouth etc, but be aware that there is a level crossing and the sirens are audible in the house when the windows are open. You can park directly outside the house but we didn't bother as there were ample parking spaces on the nearby road. The house is perfectly sited for places like Monkey World, the Tank museum and for getting into Dorchester and Weymouth either by train or car. It's less than 20 minutes from Durdle Door and Lulworth cove as well, so ideal if you dont want to spend hours driving to locations. We had a lovely time at Brickyard cottage and would book again.

Pleasant cottage for a week away in Dorset.

Good location for train station and a very good dog friendly pub. Nice garden. I personally found the living room a little too dark & the furniture uncomfortable. I regularly holiday in the UK in similar accommodation and feel that the cost at £175 per night (inc booking fee) was too high all things considered.

Wouldn't recommend this accomadation but the area was lovely.

Several things impacted on our stay...unfriendly owner and neighbours, too many rules and regulations, night time railway repairs which we ( And Sykes ) were not made aware of and just a general lack of home comforts.

Nice cottage, spotless.

Kitchen and bathroom well equipped. Garden pleasant to sit out. Would have been nice to have some seat cushions. Sittingroom had a musty smell. Sofa, chairs and beds comfortable. Used the train on several occasions, handy. Pub across the road served good food, friendly service. Friendly neighbours. Good cycling in the area. Enjoyed Ringstead Bay and Bowleaze Bay, good swimming. Enjoyed our stay!

This is a beautiful cottage very near a main road and railway station with limited parking.

However, it was spotless and a lovely place to stay. I would say it is advertised as dog friendly and we did take our little pooch with us, but signs up saying not on the furniture or upstairs were a bit disappointing. I appreciate you don't want dogs on the beds but if someone turns up with a family pet who is used to being able to go upstairs, to suddenly stop this is very difficult. That said, the owner was nice when we spoke and it was spotlessly clean.

We missed the advertised DVD!

But this property is excellent, spotlessly clean and well equipped. It's ideally situated for a decent pub, mainline railway and endless countryside walks. Our only problem was the central heating, which came on for barely three hours a day; early mornings and late afternoons could be cold, although we had a lot of sunshine which helped if we were around in the daytime. The open fire and Rayburn weren't much use because both would gobble fuel, and little was provided. We couldn't find anywhere that sold the stuff. We would be very happy indeed to rent the property again, but we'd take a fan heater with us!

A splendid cottage - very warm and inviting.

The cottage is situated in the perfect location - a quiet area with lots of historical sites and beautiful Dorset scenery only a short drive away. We arrived in two cars and parked outside/very nearby without any problems. The cottage has everything you could possibly need - a modern bathroom and kitchen, towels, and complementary tea and biscuits which were a warm welcome after a long drive. We were accompanied by our two dogs and the garden is very secure and quite beautiful - nice to sit outside on a sunny day. In short, we had a lovely stay and I highly recommend this cottage for anyone looking for a warm and charming cottage in a good location.

A brilliant homely feel to the cottage with a gorgeous aroma of a honeysuckle plant growing up outside the living room and bedroom windows.

An idyllic countryside place to stay but also with very easy access to the seaside either by car or train from the local station.

For older people - Be careful on the stairs especially at night - no light on landing.

Brickyard cottage exceeded my expectations by far. Reasonably priced and very thoughtfully provided for. We will definitely recommend and return. Lots of amazing sights within 20 minutes drive of the property. Stayed April 2017
