“Second stay at Besides the Sea.”

Great location, moments from Eype beach .New shower unit fitted from last visit also I believe a new refrigerator. Initial disappointment included a dirty ceramic hob with burnt on food , not forgetting that when you leave the property at the end of the let you are responsible for how it is left. A stained duvet was in a wardrobe being a duvet I suspect it was urine. Dirty ,chipped crockery put away in the kitchen cupboard. The window in the bathroom was open when we arrived. Window cills in the main bedroom and bathroom had dead insects on them. Internal parts of windows, door frames thick with grime. French doors to decking area almost impossible to operate due to lack off maintenance .On taking a shower that evening the shower drain was blocked. Dust on the bathroom radiator. We started to clean some of the items mentioned and we unblocked the drain, which took about thirty minutes purchasing bleach the next day ( Sunday) Monday morning I contacted Sykes using the information pack in the cabin. This directed me to use a whatsapp chat which to this day I don't know if it did any good. Thankfully I received two phone calls from Dream Cottages (part of Sykes?) I missed the first call, a second call Monday afternoon from Dream Cottages a routine customer courtesy checking to see if all was well with the cabin. This resulted in a visit by two cleaning supervisors and a cleaner who did their best to sort out the problems. Removing the duvet, some of the crockery, a worn oven liner ( supplying foil as a replacement) light oiling the French doors so they would operate Tristan the cleaner also had another go at the shower drain. TV lost most of the channels (Thursday) I checked the external ariel cable as the tv said no signal, the staples holding it to the cabin are all rusted through cable is just hanging there though this was not the problem it is an indication of the poor maintenance of the cabin. The paintwork on the bathroom cross beam needs attention the supervisor took a photo of this and some of the other problems mentioned. The problems were accumulative and did effect our stay.

About the location

EYPE

Bridport 1.8 miles; Lyme Regis 9.6 miles; Seaton 18.4 miles.

Eype sits on one of the most dramatic sections of the Jurassic Coastline, and famously features one of ITV’s series Broadchurch’s most iconic locations. We’ll leave you guessing as to which one until you visit. The beach at Eype is a steeply shelving pebble beach that is dog friendly all year round and just 3 miles from Bridport and 4 from West Bay, where many other Broadchurch locations can be viewed, as well enjoying local fish and chips on the harbour side and ice creams on the sea front. Bridport offers all the high street amenities you will need along with a much-coveted antiques and collectables market. Golden Cap, the highest point in Dorset, sits on the South West Coast path and is just 4 miles from Eype, although it’s the highest point there are moderate routes to walk to the top, where spectacular far reaching views along the coast will be your reward.
