“Great house, really clean and well equipped in a beautiful location.”

Yes you can hear the traffic noise but you tune out of it so fast that it is isn’t an issue. Having the amazing wood on the doorstep makes it a really special place to stay with lots of amazing birds & deer to spot if you walk through it.

“Great location for visiting Dorset’s many attractions including Monkey World, barely a 10 minute drive away.”

Oak cottage was spotlessly clean and very well equipped, always a bonus if you are mostly self catering. The hot tub was clean, up to temperature and ready to go, and well maintained throughout our stay. The garden was ideal for our dog, being secure and spacious. Also being at the end of the lane you have countryside right on your doorstep with walks and trails that look like they extend for some miles - or you can do a quick circuit round the lower parts of May’s Wood. The locals seem friendly and the village is well served by a couple of pubs - nice food at the Royal Oak - and a very well stocked Nisa, all walkable distance. We also made use of the Basilico mobile pizza van that calls at Bere Regis on Wednesday evenings- highly recommend. As mentioned in previous reviews there is some road noise audible from the garden, so not for those who require complete silence - lots of birdsong though. Great communication from the owners and how lovely to have the welcome gifts including fresh eggs from their hens.

“I had stayed the previous week with family and this second week was booked with friends.”

I can only reiterate on my previous feedback. Arne RSPB and Sculpture by the Lake are recommended to visit and are within 5-6 miles of the cottage. The communication was excellent with the owners. The cottage is a delightful find and will definitely book again for a 5th time once dates are released for next year.

“I had stayed at this beautiful cottage on 2 previous occasions with friends, however this week was with family.”

They loved the cottage with its great location to visit lots of gorgeous bays and surrounding countryside. The hot tub was a massive hit and was used every day. A very well equipped cottage,with the owners leaving us some goodies for our arrival. Great communication from the owner Julie. We're keeping an eye out for availability dates in 2025.

“Great little property with a fantastic size garden.”

The owners have gone to great lengths to make the stay as easy as possible. Suppling eggs, bread, milk, butter, tea and coffee as well as dishwasher tablets and washing pods and even dog treats and dog shampoo, and ice. The size of the property is cozy and ideal for the two of us with our large dog. The owners had made sure the hot tub was hot and ready for our 4pm arrival (this doesn’t always happen in other properties!) The only down side is the traffic noise from the very busy A35 next to the property. It didn’t stop us having a great time while in the garden but I can imagine in the summer it may cause an issue. Also the gravel in the garden was an issue. The dog had the small stones in her paws and would bring them into the house. We would swear and curse treading on them bare foot going to the hot tub, so bring flip flops. We did sweep the path but the gravel gets everywhere. The location is fantastic for anyone with a dog with a walk right on your door step and we were never more than 30 minutes in the car from tourist spots. We had a great time and would definitely recommend

“Our second stay at Oak Cottage.”

This cosy and comfortable cottage is very well equipped. The log fire and hot tub are great for relaxing after a day out. The secure enclosed good sized garden is great for the dog. This cottage has so much to offer with lovely walks from the doorstep around the village and around the woods. Ideally situated for day trips out to various places of interest including the beach. The owners are hospitable and friendly. Loved the welcome packs for us and the dog. The guest information folder is a wealth of information and user friendly.

“We loved our stay here, with our 2 dogs.”

For once an "enclosed garden" was just that. It was great having a utility room. The house was well equipped & cosy, the hot tub was lovely, if a little temperamental. Plenty walks nearby & a lovely area to explore. We'd certainly like to return. For info parking is a little tight. We went as 2 couples, I think any more than 4 people would be a little cramped but possibly not in the summer as the garden is very spacious. The time on the clock above the table is still 2:45!

“This was our second time at Oak Cottage and we loved it just as much as the first time.”

We travelled as a family - 2 adults and our 2 children aged 12 and 10 years. The welcome pack and (not so) mini bar is a fantastic touch. This is a great property to explore the may things around Dorset and the surrounding area. The hot tub was great to enjoy after a day out, then we spent our evenings around the cosy log burner, playing family games (also a nice addition to the property since our last stay). The layout is not what I imagined, but yes plenty big enough for 6. The mini Bar, although a nice touch, we did not use it and for us, more room in the lounge would have been the preference. The cottage location is fantastic for Dog owners and those who wish to explore Dorset. I would definitely look to book the accommodation again.

“Wonderful cottage in beautiful surroundings.”

Perfectly located in peace and quiet, but close enough to main routes to get anywhere in Dorset. Comfy beds and sofa, a good smart TV, great wifi. Well equipped kitchen, with all you need to cook anything, with instructions for appliances in the welcome book. We loved the welcome basket, and the hot tub was just fabulous. The garden is a lovely size and is fully enclosed so I didn’t have to worry about my dog trying to escape at all. We had a great time and will definitely be back.

“As a family of four adults and two children, (7 and 13), we had a lovely two week holiday.”

The area is beautiful , lots of interesting places to visit. We enjoyed the boat ride up the river at Wareham especially. The family visited the tank museum, and the monkey sanctuary and we all visited the village taken from the people during WW1 and never returned to them. The pub in Bere Regis is great, the food and the staff were so good. We were allowed to take our dog in with us. The village shop is excellent and has all one would want. And last but not least the Welcome pack was great and even included a bag of dog biscuits . The accommodation was clean, comfortable and had every thing you could possibly want. The hot tub was certainly enjoyed by the children. The garden is totally safe for our dog. The area is super for walking. The neighbours next door were so friendly and we enjoyed the chats. A beautiful property amid beautiful countryside. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Everything you needed was provided for by the owner, and the NOT so mini bar is a great idea. Plus the the hot tub and enclosed garden were ideal for guests and the safety of our dog. Also, all locations we wanted to visit, were close by and the most we had to travel was 30 minutes by car.

“We stayed in November and despite the weather had a wonderful stay.”

The cottage was perfect for our needs, well equipped laundry area ( which we had to use with 2 dogs and a baby!), great kitchen with matching saucepans with lids (a first for us in 40 years of staycations), beautifully clean and a helpful owner. Lovely area for dog walking and a village with store and 2 pubs in walking distance. Our only suggestion for the owner would be a a sign on gate post saying Oak cottage and a slightly brighter light by the key safe (we arrived when it was dark). Maybe a picture of entrance to property on access instructions would be helpful too. A great stay, thank you

“We really loved our stay at Oak Cottage.”

The cottage has been decorated to a very high standard and was spotless on arrival. The main thing I want to mention is how welcome dogs are! The listing says "dog friendly" - this is an understatement! Every detail has been thought about; stair gate, enclosed garden, dog towels & blankets, treats, poo bags and dog bowls, and location could not be better for dog walks. The only suggestion would be a more significant door mat at the back door to catch the leaves, gravel and wet paw prints! Really enjoyed the hot tub (between showers) and the pantry was a much-welcome addition. We'd love to come back! Thank you for a relaxing break.

“Lovely cottage that is kept to an extremely high standard with high quality furniture inside and out.”

We loved the private garden and hot tub, the beautiful kitchen and bathrooms. Within walking distance (10-15 minutes) to 2 pubs and a local convenience store in the village. The owners have really thought about their guests comfort and we appreciated this! We would love to see the return to the mini bar , and think the only improvements the owners could possibly do is tidy up the tv cables, and possibly add the tv to a moving bracket so all chairs can view. When in kitchen perhaps a pedal bin would be more user friendly and the large knives could do with sharpening (my son is a bit of a chef and these tiny minor things frustrated him!) Would highly recommend to anyone!

“The cottage is very well equipped and very clean.”

The bed linen and towels are very good quality, and the bed is very comfortable, there is excellent wifi and a super garden, ideal for a dog, being fully enclosed. The only issue and if feel this should have been mentioned is the proximity of the A35. The noise in the garden is quite loud all of the time, I measured it on a decibel meter and it registered an average of 62 decibels (the amount a washing machine makes). I think some mention should have been made of the proximity of the road, then at least we would have made an informed choice.

What a beautiful, well kept cottage .. The owners had thought of everything . It was our first holiday with our Labrador puppy Mabel and this cottage met with all our needs and more . So many local walks and pubs ( all dog friendly ) a local shop that we could grab essentials from . We explored Dorset and had days out with our puppy . We will definitely recommend this property . “The fixtures, fittings and furnishings were to a very high standard and certainly deservi g of a 5 dear review, however I do think that urgent eork is needed yo rectify yhe very loose paving stones leading to the main access door.”

I nearly went over on my ankle a few times if you happened to stumble on one of the loose pavers. I think this lets the property down but is easily fixed. We would definately come again though. Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

“The house is absolutely beautiful, the furnishings, including the beds and bedding were all of an excellent quality.”

Everywhere was so clean.It was just perfect for our girls weekend. We were really touched with the fresh eggs from their own chickens the tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits, pint of fresh milk in the fridge, 2 bottles of fantastic fizz and a bag of ice Julie and Chris had left for us. The hot tub was a great bonus and was immaculately clean. The house is in a brilliant location for putting on your boots and walking. We managed to buy local made honey and cider on one of our walks, much to our delight. We lit the woodburner on the Saturday night which was really cosy. Nothing negative to say at all. Loved the house and area that much we have booked for a week in March 2023.

The cottage and enclosed garden was perfect for a dog friendly stay altogether and the best Sykes holiday we’ve done in a long time. “Wow, just had the most beautiful week away in Bere Regis staying at Oak Cottage.”

The welcoming is person centred and we were gifted with a bottle of bubbly to celebrate our anniversary. The cleanliness is outstanding as well as the comfort of the home. (I've even taken photos of the bedding and bed to get at home). We never knew the owners had been in the garden to maintain the hottub, privacy is 100%. If I could recommend anything, it would be to have some lighting where the allocated parking is. We couldn't check in until 17:00pm, therefore the parking area was very dark and feel it would benefit from a security light to help identify which parking space is yours and when unloading the car...but it's only a suggestion. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone seeking a relaxing home from home experience with extra perks of the hottub!! The Royal Oak and Drax Inn pub are a gentle 30 minute stroll away, the river walk is pleasant and idyllic. Both pubs cater for you and your dogs and had a warm, cosy and friendly atmosphere.

“We stayed at Oak Cottage for a week.”

It's set in a little hamlet within Bere Regis with lovely local walks. The cottage is really comfortable, extremely well appointed with good quality fixtures and furniture and really feels like home from home. It has all the things needed to make the stay relaxing and many additional touches left by the owner (Fresh eggs from their chickens/tea/coffee biscuits and fresh milk on arrival) The cottage was spotlessly clean and there is a great enclosed private garden with large hot tub, plenty of space, a BBQ and garden furniture for warmer weather. The owner Julie is also really responsive and accommodating if you need to ask anything. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended and a great base for exploring the beautiful county of Dorset - visiting Wareham, Lulworth, Weymouth, Chesil beach, Portland, Bovington Army, Tolpuddle Martyrs, Dorchester, Bournemouth, Poole, Corfe Castle, Kingston Lacey, Wimbourne Minster to name a few. We will definitely return.

“Oak cottage was one of the best places we have ever stayed in.”

Showers were the best we have ever had and the cottage was nice and clean throughout. The only downside was that the A35 road is quire close to the cottage and there was road noise which you could hear when sat outside in the garden. Also the flags to the front of the property were quite uneven and I would think could be quite dangerous for small children. The owners live next door in the adjoining farmhouse and were very pleasant to deal with. I would rate this cottage very highly.

“The cottage was lovely inside and catered for all our needs.”

It was warm, with modern bathrooms. The beds were very comfortable. However there were a couple of issues that need to be mentioned. There is constant noise from the A35 behind the property, more noticable from the bedrooms. Also, you appear to be using the back entrance and this area lets the cottage down. Some paving slabs are uneven and wobble and dandelions abound. The gutter over the entrance drips when it rains. Improving this area would match the quality of the interior.

Slightly surprised to find we were so close to a busy main road and disappointed that the lawn had not been cut or garden attended to. That said, the hamlet in which the cottage is located is charming with any number of wonderful walks from the door and we had a thoroughly enjoyable week’s stay. The garden IS completely - and properly securely - enclosed, so even if you have “escape artists” as we do, you can book this cottage with confidence. The road cannot be heard from inside the cottage, so overall, would recommend this property. Thank you for a lovely stay in beautiful Dorset.

It is situated in a picturesque hamlet. The courtyard garden is completely secluded and comfortable with sun most of the day. The kitchen is very well equipped and enabled us to cook without compromise which was essential due to the reduced facilities at the local pub due to the pandemic. The downstairs en-suite room was brilliant for my elderly mum. The cottage is ideally placed to explore the area too. I cannot rate Oak Cottage highly enough. It’s the best holiday cottage we have booked through Sykes.

“A very well appointed cottage, with excellent furnishing and fitments.”

It is now obvious as to why only the front door of the cottage is shown in the pictures as the farmyard in which it is located is generally shabby and the area is shared with other properties. The cottage is quite dark inside and this means that the lights have to be on during the day. Being located on a farm, there is a big problem with flies, which means that food has to be covered at all times. Additionally it is not very peaceful with a lot of road traffic noise coming from the main A35 trunk road. Overall a very nice cottage with the advantage of having a hot tub, but the location lets it down.

That was a nice surprise. The cottage itself was very clean and well presented. It was very comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed, ranging from good quality kitchen equipment to blankets for our dog. The hot tub and bbq in the garden were great quality and easy to use, adding enjoyment to days that we stayed at the cottage. It’s clear to see that the owners had put a lot of thought and effort into the holiday home. The location of the cottage was good with lovely walks nearby, as well as the two pubs and shop in the high street. It was also an easy drive to key places we wanted to visit such as Lulworth Cove and Corfe Castle. I’d definitely like to visit there again, as would the rest of my family.

“This cottage is beautifully and expensively equipped.”

It is spotlessly clean and the bedding was so comfortable we were all looking to see if we could find out where the pillows came from. The kitchen is really well equipped for almost anything. The garden is great for a dog but the highlight has to be the hot tub and we used it every day whilst we were there despite it pouring with rain. There was a lovely welcome pack with eggs, bread, milk, butter, coffee, tea, sugar and local biscuits. Another great idea is 'the not so mini bar' which was hard to resist with all the chocolate, sweets and drinks in there all at very reasonable prices. A local shop is only about a 10 minute walk away and there are walks in the countryside directly from the cottage. This is probably the best cottage we have stayed in and we will almost definately book it again.

Also nearby is The Tank Museum and Monkey World. The accommodation is superb with everything we needed and great attention to detail. Oak Cottage is a modern property situated near the village of Bere Regis, Dorset.

Hosting three bedrooms; a ground floor king-size with en-suite, a first floor king-size, and a first-floor twin, and a first-floor shower room, this property can sleep up to six people.

Inside you will also find a ground floor cloakroom, kitchen/diner, sitting room with wood burner and mini bar, along with a utility.

To the outside is off-road parking, and an enclosed rear garden with gravel and lawn areas, furniture, barbecue and hot tub.

Located in a lovely setting with an abundance of charm, Oak Cottage is a wonderful retreat in a memorable part of England.

About the location

BERE REGIS

Wareham 6 miles; Dorchester 12 miles; Poole 12 miles.

Bere Regis is found in north-west Purbeck District between Dorchester and Poole and is a short distance to the villages of Moreton and Bovington. Athelhampton House is only a short drive away on the edge of Puddletown village. The village boasts St John the Baptist church which has a history dating back 1000 years where tours are given by church members, available between May and September. Close by are the villages of Briantspuddle, Affpuddle and Turnerspuddle, which are quiet and picturesque. Affpuddle Forest which is managed by the Forestry Commission is found south of Affpuddle village, with Higher Hyde Heath (managed by Dorset Wildlife Trust) found south of Bere Regis. For the adventurous, there are numerous outdoor activities within easy reach of Bere Regis including Quad Biking, and Hang-Gliding. Near to the Bere Stream, Elder Road Open Space can be discovered with its riverside boardwalk and bridge as well as the area known as Mays Wood which is accessible to the public with numerous trees and plants including orchids, which has been created by Brian May, the lead guitarist from the pop group Queen. There is a farm shop on Rye Hill which sells a large variety of local produce. There are also two village pubs and a village shop.
