“We enjoyed our stay but feel it wouldn't be a suitable property for anyone with mobility problems as the road to it is steep and very narrow and the parking is not close to the front door.”

The cottage itself had everything we needed and was cosy. The garden, back yard and the outside of the windows could do with being maintained and cleaned better.

The property

Nestled in the quaint market town of Bridport, Dorset, rests this lovely Grade II-listed mid-terrace cottage, Bedford Terrace, a former ropemaker’s cottage.

Set a stone's throw away from the seaside settlement of West Bay, Bedford Terrace is a charming and homely setting from which to explore the Jurassic Coast.

After a fun-filled day at the beach, return to the cottage and settle down on the sofa in the sitting room, traditionally styled with original wooden floorboards and a rustic woodburning stove and let the television do the entertaining for an hour or two. The spacious kitchen/diner follows suit with the traditional décor, with a rustic dining table and contrasting wood surfaces, inviting you to take a perch and enjoy a drink with the chef as they prepare a delicious meal using fresh local produce.

Watch the sun go down with a seat in the garden, breathing in the refreshing coastal air and toasting a wonderful holiday with a sparkling glass of fizz.

Head upstairs where you can relax and unwind in one of the two bedrooms, the first of which being a sizeable king-size bedroom where you can enjoy a view from the old-style rocking chair towards the sea at West Bay, and a charming twin bedroom, home to a selection of books and a plush armchair, inviting you to cosy up and escape into a novel. Servicing the bedrooms is the family bathroom, brightly-decorated with a delightful pastel yellow, creating the perfect ambiance for a tranquil soak in the bathtub. Venture into the heart of Bridport and browse the quaint shops and the stalls of the twice-weekly market, explore the history at Bridport Museum, or take a stroll along the banks of the River Brit.

Bridport has lots going on, with an arts centre, cinema/concert hall, a small theatre and pubs with regular live music gigs.

Annual events include the Food Festival, Carnival, Hat Fest, Folk Festival, Melplash Show and Literature Festival.

Lace up your boots and take a walk along the South West Coastal Path from West Bay, Bridport’s historic harbour, to Burton Bradstock, taking in the picturesque view across the water from the Jurassic Coast, enjoying a stop at one of the village pubs to indulge in locally sourced fresh fish.

Travel further afield to visit the town of Lyme Regis, lying on the border of Devon and Dorset, where you can take a stroll through the beautiful Langmoor and Lister gardens or partake in a fossil hunting tour with Lyme Regis Museum, collecting rare keepsakes to take home with you.

Make unforgettable memories of your escape to Dorset with a stay at Bedford Terrace.

About the location

BRIDPORT

Lyme Regis 10 miles; West Bay 2 miles.

The attractive market town of Bridport grew up around the River Brit, and was shaped by its extensive history of rope and net making. The long, wide streets and alleyways between the houses were once where the flax strands were twisted into rope, while today those streets are filled with an interesting variety of shops, restaurants and inns. Bridport’s market is regularly featured on the River Cottage TV programme. 2 miles south of Bridport is the dramatic Jurassic coast at West Bay, now a World Heritage Site, home to the backdrop for TV's Harbour Lights and the coastal setting for popular Broadchurch, whilst the picturesque resort of Lyme Regis is within 10 miles. A superb base for exploring wonderful West Dorset.
