Monkey Around At Monkey World This Weekend!

Monkey World is a rescue centre for all kinds of primates, including chimpanzees, orangutans, gibbons and monkeys and makes a fantastic day out for visitors of all ages. The Sanctuary was originally started by Jim Cronin and his wife Alison in 1987, to provide a home for abused chimpanzees. Now the Centre is home to more than 230 endangered primates.

The monkeys are all rescued from shocking situations around the world and are lovingly placed and looked after in their own large groups. The team at Monkey World are friendly and knowledgeable and it is well worth taking a guided tour, so you can hear more about the background of each of the primates as you explore the sanctuary. Some of the apes were rescued from cages where they could barely move, but now they happily play in huge spaces in their newly formed families and it is a real treat to behold.

On a recent visit to Monkey World, our Dream Team member Joy particularly enjoyed seeing the baby orangutans, who stay in a separate enclosure, until old enough to be introduced in with the other adults. Joy was there on a gorgeous sunny day and witnessed the chimpanzees having a crazy five minutes shouting and running around!

After some serious monkey watching, the fun doesn’t end there. Sat in 65 acres of woodland, the park has many woodland parks and boasts the Great Ape Play Area, the largest children’s play site in the South. There are also some new swings for disabled children.

Top the day off with a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake or an ice cream in the outdoor or indoor café and the result is a perfect family day out!
