“The photos and desciption of the cottage and location badly need updating.”

Photos at least 15 years old. On turning into the farm theres great chunks of roadway missing, which makes it hard to turn right out of the gate. Photos at least 15 years old. On turning into the farm theres great chunks of roadway missing, which makes it hard to turn right out of the gate. The drive through the farm was was quite hit and miss in places. Understandable as i know farming life is a very busy one but the cost of the cottage for the week is not in keeping with the place. The views of the sea were nearly none existent from the cottage, hidden behind trees and bushes, had to stand on a chair to take pictures. Cottage grubby throughout, bath, windows, windowsills, plenty of spiders. The attached barn for sitting in was so dirty and smelt of cat wee, so couldnt use that. No plug in the bath, or doesnt fit, no rubber seal on it, cold tape in the bath doesnt work, shower head is floppy, no plug in the bathroom sink. Hairs in the bath. The decking description says new but at least 10 years old. It was so dirty my sister had to brush it. No sunbeds out, (unlike photos) in the barn covered in dirt and going a bit rusty, no umbrella out, this was in the barn and full of snails, my sister cleaned all these too. The freezer compartment in the top of the fridge was useless, we should have checked it before buying ice cream and frozen peas, so that is on us. It was all frosted up so you couldnt get anything in it, we scraped out what we could but nothing stayed frozen in there and we ended up chucking the ice cream away. Definately not good value for the money we paid. We watched the cleaner come to clean the other cottage after the other couple left on the Friday and she was in there for all of 45 minutes before she left again, how can you clean a cottage in that short time.

The property

Eweleaze is a rustic two-bedroom holiday home; off the beaten track on Tamarisk Farm in the coastal village of West Bexington.

It is set amongst the farm’s fruit, flower and vegetable gardens, and just a few fields back from the world-famous Chesil Beach and Jurassic Coast.

There are views of the sea and across Lyme Bay.

You will see Golden Cap, the highest point of the English south coast, as well as the Jurassic Coast of West Dorset and Devon.

On a clear day you may see Start Point in Devon, around fifty miles across the Bay.

The main living space is full of windows, allowing great access to the views.

Weather and conditions permitting, a short walk across the fields will take you past a wildlife pond and West Bexington Nature Reserve, and on to the beach.

The beach is ~400m ‘as the crow flies’ from Eweleaze. Eweleaze is modestly proportioned and is built of local stone from the surrounding fields; it is a simple practical construction, blending into farm buildings and the environment.

The outside space benefits from a new decking-sitting area, and lawn with apple trees & other shrubs.

These merge into a wild-grown & wooded space and then the fields and farm beyond.

It is nestled within the farm and the countryside, and in preference to having a formal garden is intentionally left natural to encourage birds and other wildlife.

Inside, the main living space is a light, south-facing kitchen-dining-sitting area; the bathroom includes a child’s bath and electric shower.

The master bedroom has views from the double bed; with the second bedroom offering bunk beds and a single ‘chair-bed’ for flexibility.

There is a wood stove as well as electric heating.

The back door opens into a spacious garage; it’s not a typical garage, so make up your own mind up about this space (garage photos included); it is intended as a useful and flexible inside-outside space.

Next door is a small working barn in use by the fruit and vegetable garden.

As well as walks and wildlife, the village offers a bar / restaurant at ‘The Manor Hotel’ (~3 minutes’ walk) and if you keep walking towards the beach for a further ~3 minutes, you’ll find excellent dining at ‘The Club House’.

Check them online for offers and events (such as live music at The Club House).

Eweleaze is surrounded by countryside and is highly vegetated, merging into the wild, even close to the cottage.

This means that birds, mammals, amphibians and insects are all abundant; some of these may be keen to share your space.

Although architecturally modest, and simply furnished, what Eweleaze lacks in these terms, it makes up for in simple tastefulness, practicality, and from its outstanding location.

With the sea so close, the interest of the farm (find it on Facebook and Instagram for farm events in season) and so much outside space to explore, Eweleaze is ideal for families, couples, dog-owners and lovers of the outdoors and nature.

Many guests have returned year after year, and some have been visiting for decades.

We hope you like it if you decide to visit.
