“I have just arrived home after staying at Barley Mews in Weymouth from 25 Jul to 1 Aug 26.”

Unfortunately, our stay was significantly tarnished by the condition and presentation of the property. We have stayed in Barley Mews previously and it is clear there is a failing somewhere between the owners, Dream Cottages and the cleaning provider. TBH I would be surprised if the property would pass a landlord's test for long terms lettings. Moreover, I sincerely feel that there is gross contempt for the paying customer - the property has not deteriorated over night. Barley Mews could and should be a flagship property for Sykes and to remain on the nautical theme it is now a wreck! We arrived shortly before 1600 hrs on 25 Jul. We found 2 freezers blocked with ice, food dripping down the kitchen cupboards, cobwebs and mildew across most of the windows, rust and grease on several of the pans, cupboards and utensils covered in grease and ming. The showers were dirty, with trays covered in grim, bins etc were rusty. I immediately reported the issues to the local office and to be fair a team of staff arrived fairly quickly to clean and replace pans. We are grateful for this but it does not take away from the general malaise and perception of contempt that exists for your loyal, and first time customers. Moreover, after the team had departed I found the shower waste completely blocked - please see picture attached. As with cleaning the ice from the freezers I do not expect to be on my hands and knees cleaning ming from a shower waste on the first day of my holiday. The living experience was no better and as an example the cooker is filthy and many of the knobs broken - it is a health hazard and dangerous. The single bed had a double duvet shoved in the single cover - really....! The garden etc is woeful and the games-room does not live up to the description and has huge screws holding the pool table together. The kitchen cutlery, plates etc is a mismatch of many iterations of design and impossible to find a set of anything given the 9/10 beds/cotbed. Your reviews say it all so this should not be a surprise - and given you've received previous feedback I can only assume you think nothing of us customers! In sum, the property is not fit for purpose, while we are paying good money to be left cheated!

About the location

BREWERS QUAY HARBOUR

Dorchester 8.7 miles; West Lulworth 15.8 miles

Brewers Quay is the old Victorian brewery situated at the heart of the harbour, in Weymouth, Dorset. Much of the grade II listed complex and surrounding brewery buildings date from the late 1800 early 1900’s and many have stones inlaid commemorating their construction year. This area is now a popular destination with many restaurants, café and bars, creating a vibrant culture, where you can relax with a drink and watch the world go by. Tucked away down the harbourside streets, you will find original Tudor harbour buildings, estimated to have been built in 1600 and well worth a visit, with a very interesting history to share. You will also find the Weymouth Museum, with some incredible exhibitions, and the harbour is also home to the lifting bridge, where you can watch the luxury yachts head out to sea, and then walk over the bridge to the town's winding streets of boutique shops and the seafront esplanade and beach.
