    Except for the derelict building on the right, which is a huge shame for the building as well as for the island of Portland. The apartment was bright and airy. The double bed was comfortable. The power of the shower was good in the on-suite, but all the taps in the bathrooms were difficult to use. The only practical let down and frustration was that there was nowhere, in either bathrooms to hang used towels. No shelves in bathrooms for toiletries. No hooks to hang dressing gowns or ...

It would be helpful if a coat hook was placed on the wall in the huge hallway. Overall a pleasant stay.

Portland has an isolated feel and is joined to the mainland by Chesil Beach – a stretch of sand, shingle and rocks and only a short walk from the apartment.

You will also find a marina, pubs and shops all nearby.

Rocky, coastal scenery gives Portland its own serene atmosphere with history and heritage by the bucket load.

The iconic red and white striped lighthouse can be found at the top of the island at Portland Bill and offers the most magnificent, far reaching views over the coast.

Portland is home to a museum, a castle and is rich in folklore and tales of pirates and smugglers to discover.

Walkers and cyclists can delight in the Portland loop of the South West Coast Path which circles around the island mapping out a trail of dramatic cliffs, rare plants and secluded coves.

There is a wide range of activities to participate in such as rock climbing, abseiling, dingy sailing and kite-surfing.

The Hotel Aqua is situated between Portland Port and Portland Castle.

It is a short stroll from Portland Marina and the National Sailing Academy and offers scuba diving in the Harbour or in Chesil Cove6.

Castletown is a small village in Underhill on the Isle of Portland in Dorset. It is located close to Fortuneswell, on the shores of Portland Harbour, and includes a sandy beach, as well as one of Portland's notable highlights; Portland Castle, while the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy is also located nearby. As with the rest of Portland's villages and settlements, Castletown has been designated as a conservation area, as it is a place of special architectural and historic interest. Portland’s vivid coastline boasts numerous scenic walking opportunities and is known as a birdwatcher’s paradise. There are many outdoor pursuits to get involved in such as rock climbing and abseiling as well as an array of watersport activities available. There are pubs and local shops nearby. Alternatively take the short drive to the very tip at Portland Bill with its iconic red and white striped Lighthouse. The nearby family friendly, seaside resort of Weymouth is a 15-minute drive and offers visitors plenty of family friendly attractions.
