Old Ropemakers Cottage

We were in the cottage in the heatwave because of the size they need to provide fans to help with heat as the cottage is small and the attic bedroom way too unbearable.

We found the cottage lovely but for us just too far out from the centre of Bridport but it is a lovely cottage and all the things ie washer etc were provided.

Lovely traditional cottage just a 10 minute walk into Bridport and two minutes to footpaths over Allington hill and beyond.

Parking is as stated tight but we got lucky for the stay and had everything we needed for the stay in the cottage. The only suggestion is maybe a spare set of door keys inside as the old front doors don’t lock without keys when shut and having teenagers who wanted to come home before us meant they either had to lock the doors and we had to try and wake them up when getting home or not really an an option leave the doors unlocked. Would definitely stay again if in the area. Thank you

The cottage was in good condition, very clean and well maintained .

It was a very tight squeeze on the ground floor for a grown family plus dogs. Location was excellent for getting into and around Bridport but parking at the site was a nightmare , with people parked on double yellow lines and all around the close making unloading and packing difficult. Kitchen and bathroom facilities all good and some nice touches with books and games if the weather is poor

Further to our problem with the electricity supply thursday evening and our eventual contact with you via the neighbours,I trust that that the supply has been checked and confirmed safe for the next visitors.

I eventually found that the problem was caused by the central heating tripping the main rcb switch. I was suprised to see the electric box for the central heating appeared to be solely a normal fuse which appeared contacted direct to the fuse box bus bar rather than by a rcb? I may be wrong but none of the rcb tripped and none of them was listed as central heating. Apart from that the cottage was well supplied and very comfortable.New TVinstalled and the milk and biscuits items appreciated. The light in the inner porch did not work? I would suggest that the wooden worktops are sanded back and then sealed to prevent the cup stains etc. We did leave some food items in the fridge,still in date as we had a limited evening and morning due to the electric problem. The cottage is very cosy and well located - about 15 minutes walk into town.

The kitchen is small but quite well equipped. The bed is very comfortable. There's a great park nearby for those with dogs. The cottage could do with a bit of general maintenance and a newer TV. The extractor fan in the bathroom only worked intermittently. We reported this to Sykes so we hope that's fixed now. But, small issues aside, it's a very comfortable place to stay and we're thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

The actual building itself is quite small down stairs.

It was two adults and a small dog. I felt the garden had no privacy. Neighbours over looked you in the garden. The front door step had rotted garden leaves in the corner of the front door. I was disappointed that this wasn’t swept and kept tidy. The cottage was kept clean inside, and equipped with everything you need. But the PARKING was impossible. We had to park a few streets down and this was hard for me as I do have limited mobility issues. The sofa was a big problem as well it was extremely uncomfortable, caused me to have back pain. The furniture needs updated and to feel more cozy. For the price we paid for 4 nights I would have thought the furniture would have been kept up together. The bed was comfortable. But there wasn’t a standing wardrobe in the main bedroom. The airing cupboard was used as a wardrobe to hang your clothes. I didn’t use this because the airing cupboard was extremely dusty. The toilet cistern needs replacing, because it was impossible to flush the toilet at times. The handle was ready to break at anytime. But the biggest problem of all was that there was a foul smell coming from the fridge. I wasn’t sure if it was the fridge’s gas! . The last two mornings we woke up to this stink It was off putting and ruined our stay there. We left a day early for 3 reasons. First the parking is impossible and awful, then the furniture was so uncomfortable, the sofa gave me extreme back pain and the foul smell coming from the fridge area. I did text the owner and she said. She was sorry in a blunt text message. Sorry I won’t be staying again.

Lovely cottage very comfy beds and pillows.

The cottage had everything you would need for a short stay. We would definitely consider booking again.

The property was lovely and clean on our arrival.

Very well equipped and catered well if you had children. The furniture in the lounge area was very poor and uncomfortable, especially the single chair, which was very loose and unsteady. The walls were very thin between next door and you can hear everything, and I mean everything! Going on, didn’t really help that there was a party until 3.30 on the Friday night and visitors until 1.30 knocking and shouting the next night. Parking is a massive issue, not able to park any day, and even had one local knocking to see if it was our car blocking his entrance.

On entering the cottage on arrival it had a cosy feel.

Everything was well presented mattresses and pillows were perfect for a good nights sleep. Location was spot on for all the activities we had pre-booked. After a busy day it was lovely to be able to sit in the court yard and relax with a glass of chilled wine. Parking is available but it is a case of first come first served but we found alternative parking a short walk away by the hospital.

Delightful cottage, very clean and comfortable.

The little extras such as tea, coffee etc, etc, were much appreciated. Ideal location being not far from the shops and the bus station. Parking was not an issue for us being non drivers. Very quiet area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Lovely little cottage, beautifully renovated, good for a family of three.

Our son loved the attic bedroom. Really appreciated the games- played labyrinth 3 nights in a row. Would have found iplayer really useful...No way of logging into our account? Parking quite tricky

The front garden we felt that the large wooden cupboard which was empty and couldn't be used for the wheelie could have been enlarged for the wheelie bins making the sitting space more acceptable.

The log stove was in a poor condition as the rope seal on the door was hanging off, rendering it completely inefficient . (We are used to using wood burners). Upstairs shower controls were not working well. In the second floor double bedroom a coat hook was fixed about halfway down the door. Making it useless.

Very nicely renovated.

Comfy beds with fluffy duvets and lovely crisp white covers. Few little things missing from the kitchen, grater, meat pan, more tea towels. Top bedroom curtains don’t meet and the lamp should be by the bedside not 10’ away. Could do with a map of the area and coast. It o really very attractive.

I have marked the property down simply on the basis of parking.

When we arrived there was nowhere to park so I parked on the neighbour’s drive (no. 16) for a few minutes to unload our heavy cases and dog crate. The neighbour called down over his intercom to my wife demanding we move the car immediately. I ignored this but we were unable to park in Diments Garden during our stay and I was worried how I could load the car on departure. Luckily I was able to get a place on the very last morning so I avoided another confrontation- I was planning to park on the pavement outside no 16’s drive. During the week I didn’t see a single car on no 16s drive. If I owned Rooemakers Cottage I would see if he’d let people park on his drive for, say, 30 minutes for a reasonable sum. It would make a huge difference. We were able to park in Hospital Lane every day which wasn’t really a problem otherwise. Other minor points - my wife suggested a make up mirror would be good. Our granddaughter slept in the upstairs room on Sunday afternoon and my son thought the curtains were very thin so it was very light in the room. Otherwise everything was absolutely fine - clean and comfortable.
