Dairy Cottage

We had a really lovely stay at the Dairy cottage, we used it as a base for my friends wedding at the Subtropical Garden so the location was perfect, all the beds were comfy and great kitchen/bathroom facilities.

The only thing I would note was there was quite a few ants on the kitchen/living room floor but they had put some traps out and it was one of the hottest weekends of the year, I would probably just recommend putting a few more traps out.

The property was beautiful, clean and comfortable.

While we were there the weather was cold and wet, but the heating system was perfect. We only stayed at the property for four nights, due to the weather. We tried to contact both the agent looking after the property and Sykes Cottages but none of the telephone options covered our needs. I don't know what we would have done if there was an actual problem !!!

Dairy Cottage is in a beautiful peaceful setting, remote but within easy reach of Abbotsbury, Dorchester, Weymouth and numerous beaches.

The garden was great for our dog, secure so we could let him out and he could do his own thing. The cottage was clean but not pristine just needed a little more attention to detail. There was ample crockery and kitchen equipment and the cottage was very comfortable. Would certainly consider staying again at Dairy Cottage if visiting that area again

A delightful cottage in a rural farm location surrounded by beautiful country side and amazing wild life.

Driving to the cottage you immediately feel relaxed as you breath clean fresh air and pass fields and woodlands. The cottage has ample room, is clean, and is provided with all the amenities needed to enjoy a relaxing vacation. Situated between Weymouth and Lyme Regis it offers many attractions to ensure all the family members are provided with entertainment. We will definitely consider revisiting.

We informed the PM them that we would be departing and we expect a full refund.

Refund was promised and confirmed in writing but we’re still waiting on the refund. It ruined our holiday to what should have been a wonderful property in a lovely location. We feel like we’ve been lied to both on the property (someone should have told us that work was happening) and on the refund. I will be speaking to my card issuer today to raise a chargeback. Appalling customer service and a very disappointing outcome. Safe to say we won’t be using your services again.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Dairy Cottage.

The cottage was very clean and comfortable. Although it’s located on a working farm, there was no noise from the farm at all. The place was very quiet and peaceful. We didn’t have much of a chance to enjoy the garden and the outdoor seating as the weather wasn’t great but I can imagine it’s really lovely in the warmer months. During our stay the wood burner was out of service, which was disappointing. But apart from that everything was perfect. I’d happily stay at the Dairy Cottage again in the future. Thank you

We had a little bit of difficult in find the cottage.

When we got there it was beautiful well looked after lovely and clean. Beds were so comfy. Lovely and peacefull. When we go back down to dorest again in the future we would book again we all loved it there

Dairy cottage was amazing, we got the best of both worlds staying here.

The peace and tranquility of the farm and then just a short drive to local towns and beaches. The cottage its self was very clean tastefully decorated and perfectly equipped. The only little tiny niggle was the bed situation. We all found the beds a little bit too hard to sleep in. But the rest of the cottage and farm made up for it. I’ll miss greeting the cows in the morning and going to see them in the evenings too. The kids loved it here. We felt safe and with 1000s of acres to walk and explore we will certainly be back. Lovely stay in a lovely area.

We felt one toilet roll in each bathroom for 6 adults was not enough. Especially as no shops around to purchase more. Also only one tea towel was not really enough. But overall a very pleasant stay. Thank you very much

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Diary Cottage with family.

We booked last minute to recover from the Christmas chaos and it was exactly what we needed. Peaceful, beautiful, charming and cosy. Very well equipment with a lovey open fire. Also the Christmas tree was a lovely surprise for my daughter. Abbington is a short drive away with a lovely local pub and surrounded by open fields. We would definitely be returning! Thank you

warm and cosy,everything we needed.only one point the oven needed a clean from previous visitors and I tried to clean it but had nothing to hand that worked .A few more cleaning products would help as a very rural setting which is stunning of coarse.I would recommend this property 100 percent.

This is a very remote, peaceful place to stay.

The cottage was lovely, well equipped and immaculate. There are quite long rutted lanes in both directions but once on the main road, so many places are easily accessible. We would happily return here. (I would amend the directions to name Litton lane rather than no access for motor vehicles as no other sign is visible.)

Everything a country cottage should be. A credit to the owners Have confidence in the directions, although they seem lengthy they are spot on.

Absolutely wonderful property — spotless, beautifully presented, and full of thoughtful touches like milk, fresh coffee, and biscuits on arrival.

It’s very dog-friendly, with a secure garden and even apples on the trees if you visit in autumn! The location is peaceful and idyllic. A quick tip for future guests: if you’re using satnav from the A35 (Dorchester), avoid the route through Long Bredy via Abbotsbury Lane — it’s unsuitable for cars. The owner’s directions are helpful, though a bit wordy; using the what3words location works best, as the postcode leads to a nearby manor. Despite our satnav adventure, we wouldn’t hesitate to return to Dairy Cottage — a truly fantastic stay!

Dairy Cottage is a lovely thatched cottage out in the countryside, surrounded by fields and grazing cattle.

The pictures that advertise the cottage are very accurate. If you want somewhere quiet, with no light pollution, then this is the place for you. We thought the cottage was nicely decorated and had all the equipment that we required to enjoy our stay. On the whole, the cottage was very clean, there were a few things, like hair in the bedroom drawers, I did use the hoover before I unpacked but it wasn’t a big issue and they could do with hoovering the bed, top and bottom where the mattress sits. The linen was all lovely but the mattress protector could do with a wash and the windows could do with being cleaned, inside and out. Also the kitchen sink could do with being bleached. The bathrooms were clean, as was the kitchen and the rest of the cottage, I’ve only mentioned the other bits for feedback, it wasn’t a big issue. I’d say for comfort, it’s good not excellent, only because I’m used to a King sized bed and the cottage has two doubles ( that’s just personal preference) We would definitely stay there again and are thinking of booking in the Spring of next year.

The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped.

We could not fault it. However the directions from Dorchester were too vague and in places misleading. Luckily we had the help of some passing locals who put us on the right track. The addition of some road names which were clearly visible would have been helpful.

We stayed at Dairy Cottage and really enjoyed the peaceful rural location.

It was a great base for days out, the garden space was lovely to relax in, and having cows in the field behind the cottage was lovely for the kids. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the standard of cleanliness. There were noticeable stains on the rug in the lounge, the bedroom carpets, and the dining chairs. We also found thick dust and dirt on the skirting boards and under the radiators, as well as mould on the back of one of the doors. More worryingly, some personal items had been left behind, including a used earplug, a bra, mascara, and a dirty tissue. We had also requested an infant cot and did find one stored in a cupboard, but no sheets were provided, which made it unusable during our stay. The cottage has lots of potential thanks to its setting, outdoor space, and location, but it really needs more attention to cleanliness and guest preparation in order to be as enjoyable as it should be.

Off the beaten track, very rural.

If you want peace and quiet this is the cottage for you. Great garden for the kids. Well equipped cottage, spacious with two bathrooms. Lovely decor white and blues. Good location for Abbotsbury garden, Hive beach etc

Location is peaceful and cottage is pretty and nicely styled.

Incredible views from the top of the hill and surrounding areas and attractions are brilliant. Unfortunately it isn’t being well maintained it was not very clean. The bath had silver fish, one of the toilets had blood on the front and seat there was dirt around the taps and marks on the light switches. The draining board and washing up bowl under the sink were filthy, although in a cupboard I wanted to use to preserve water but didn’t fancy scrubbing them first. There’s mold between the windows and secondary double glazing on all the windows and the whole house was dusty. Placemats stacked on the table were dirty. The kitchen is not generously stocked. The garden is full of weeds. I feel we’ve been ripped off for the price which was over £1k for four nights.

The cottage was very clean and comfortable.

A problem with a loo was sorted swiftly. The cottage and garden are beautiful and it is wonderfully peaceful. I would suggest a few bits in the kitchen - e.g kitchen roll and foil, and a spare loo roll in each bathroom perhaps? We hope to return one day.

This cottage was absolutely stunning.

The location was both beautiful and serene, offering a perfect escape. The thoughtful touches—milk, tea, coffee, and biscuits on arrival—made us feel instantly welcome. The décor was simple yet stylish, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. We felt completely at home throughout our stay.

Lovely cottage, host had thought of everything.

It was so quiet and peaceful. Only thing I would say is that finding the cottage was a bit of a challenge but once there couldn’t fault it.

It is well maintained and the garden is beautiful. It was perfect for our golden retriever as it was secure for a large dog, but I would agree with other reviewers that for small dogs the garden is not secure. The only other issue we had was with the accuracy of the directions, some of our group got a bit lost on arrival as they missed a key turning. Aside from that, we had a wonderful stay and would recommend the property.

An amazing property in a delightful setting.

So quiet and relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the area, spending quite a lot of time in Abbotsbury and exploring the Chesil Beach area. It did not disappoint.

Lovely property, comfortable and a great quiet location.

Good facilities and spacious. My only criticism is that the garden is not secure for a small/medium dog. We had to find various items to block the gap under the back gate and fencing after our Westie managed to escape one evening. This could be easily be remedied by the owners by fixing a small amount of wire fencing under the gate and wooden fencing to block the gaps, hence my reason for not giving 5 stars. Saying this we were hoping to come back again next year but unfortunately the price has increased beyond our budget.

We had the most wonderful stay at Dairy Cottage and will certainly be back.

The house was very well equipped and spacious enough for 6 adults, a baby and a dog! The location is fantastic and so peaceful, right in the heart of the countryside, but also within easy access of shops, beaches etc by driving 15/20 minutes. There is so much to do in this beautiful area. The garden is large and truly delightful; we had many evenings outside with our friends, who were also staying nearby. The instructions to get to the property were, as mentioned previously, a little tricky, especially in the dark! Many of us got lost in the first few days! The beds were comfortable but certainly on the firm side. One of the beds in the twin room, the one near the wall, is really too hard to be truly comfortable and should be changed. All in all though, a fantastic house with ample room and beautiful surroundings!

We loved this cottage.

The perfect "out of the way" location perfect for viewing the stars at night, but just a few minutes away from local towns and the most amazing view at the top of the coastal road.

Comments: plastic de-laminating on the toilet seat -not a recent issue happened some weeks ago.

Why did the cleaning company not flag this to the maintenance company before our arrival. Property cleaning not to a good standard - windows cleaned months ago, shower glass still dirty. We have stayed in cheaper properties which have been better equipped - garden umbrella and cushions, milk jug sugar bowl bread bin spare toilet rolls - all missing. Dairy Cottage was comfortable and in a very rural situation which was wonderful - unfortunately spoilt by lack of maintenance and minimum facilities. Score about 2 /10 and I would not recommend the property. What a shame.

Excellent cottage in a quiet rural location.

Only a short drive to several beaches. Cottage is well equipped and very clean. The enclosed garden worked well for our dog and grandchildren. We found the beds comfy. Only slight criticism is that the directions need tweaking at the end. We had to stop and ask for help finding the property. There isn't a sign for Ashley Dairy (turning point in the instructions)- the cottage is next to Ashley Estate Office which has a sign at the turn into the drive.

Our stay at the dairy cottage was perfect, the cottage itself was absolutely beautiful.

Every room was very clean and very well maintained. We were worried about the WiFi having read previous reviews, but we had no issues at all - 4 of us were all connected and the WiFi was still very quick. There was work going on at the new cottage next door, but it was no interruption at all. They were very quiet each day and we didn’t even realise they were there! We were provided with tea, coffee, biscuits on arrival, as well as given essentials of washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, new bin liners, etc. which made it super easy to tidy up after ourselves before checking out. Accessing the cottage wasn’t ideal in a small, low car. The tracks to and from are slightly rocky and bumpy so can be a difficult drive for quite a low car. We found that the easiest and least bumpy way to access the cottage would be to head towards Abbotsbury - as you leave the cottage, turn right and head up the steep hill - the track is just over a mile before hitting the main roads! Luckily, we saw a review on here to explain about locating the cottage by spotting a green sign. Perhaps a bigger sign with the name of the cottage on the track would help other people find their way easily. Our only feedback would be the security of the garden for four-legged friends! We took our small cockapoo with us on our holiday. The garden itself is absolutely gorgeous and one of the reasons why we chose the cottage was that it mentioned it was enclosed and secured for dogs. We would agree that if you have a medium/large sized dog, this would be the case. However, the two garden gates and the 3 fence panels to the right side of the property are high enough for a little dog to escape under, which our dog did. Luckily we saw him creep under and were able to catch him, however we then had to secure these little gaps ourselves. Other than that, our stay was absolutely fantastic and we had a lovely time. We would definitely stay at the dairy cottage again. Thank you.

We absolutely loved our stay at Dairy Cottage.

The house is lovely, clean and well located. It’s so quiet there, but really easy to get everywhere. Abbotsbury is lovely with lots of things to do. We spent a day on Burton Bradstock beach (15 mins away). The Subtropical Gardens are well worth a visit. We didn’t realise, but the bedrooms all have blackout blinds as well as curtains. As a parent, this is brilliant! Our children slept so well! The garden is lovely, and well set up for relaxing at the table whilst the children ran around. The house was really clean and had everything you could need to cook pretty much any meal! There’s also children’s plates etc which is a nice touch. Really dog and family friendly. We will definitely be back!

Excellent holiday home.

Lovely rural location which was very peaceful (don’t be put off by the ‘working farm’ description!), although worth saying it’s quite a long fairly bumpy track to get to the house. Very easy key collection from key box. Every room was very tastefully decorated, with all the facilities you could want and very clear instructions for all of them. We have a toddler so were very pleased to have a highchair, cot and stairgate all provided, and it was very helpful that there is a door at the bottom of the stairs that you can close too. Very nice garden and outdoor seating area, although it was a bit too cold to enjoy that fully. Comfy beds and pillows, good shower, and lovely to have local biscuits, coffee and milk on arrival. (Tea bags and instant coffee also provided.) Only suggestions would be to make one of the bathroom doors less stiff as it was very difficult to close, and the directions could be slightly improved, I.e specifying the road name for one of the final turnings approaching from Dorchester (Litton Road) and the fact that the last turning is signed for Ashley Chase Estate Office.

We had a great stay at Dairy cottage over the Christmas break.

The house has been tastefully decorated and renovated, the beds were really comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. The garden was also beautiful and the area so quiet. If I could suggest any changes to the letting for future it would be to look at your internet providers as this was incredibly slow for a family of 6 and the smart TV would not connect. We therefore only had terrestrial TV over the Christmas period which was a shame. I also think it would be helpful if the instructions to gain access to the property were updated, including discussing the green ‘Ashley farm estate office sign’ as you turn by the house, it’s a good point of reference. We enjoyed our time and would recommend to others, thank you.

I would highly recommend Dairy Cottage.

It is spacious, beautifully presented, well equipped and extremely comfortable. We had a fabulous long weekend with family, for my husband's 60th birthday. It was a perfect place to celebrate. Many thanks.

The property itself was lovely & of a high standard, however there was no meet & greet & no contact number available for owners so when I had a problem over the weekend I had to wait for Sykes to open 9am Monday morning & was without WiFi & TV till that was resolved.

Steps out of property dangerous when wet & I had a nasty fall from them & being on my own was a nasty incident. Very remote & this isn’t made clear on advertisement & difficult to find even with satnav. Not up to Sykes usual standards compèred with all the other rural properties I have stayed in.

The cottage has been carefully and imaginatively adapted as a holiday cottage and we enjoyed the views and peace.

In the summer I imagine that it would be even better to sit out for a meal (we had tea in chilly October). The directions could be sharper, eg. lane marked Ashley Close Estate office leads to cottage or an OS map reference.

The cottage itself was lovely, everything was well equipped.

Really did like the place. Comfort rating have had to give lower as 3 of the 4 people staying said the beds were hard and uncomfortable and did not get a good night's sleep. Unfortunately would not recommend to family/friends staying here and would not stay here again myself purely based on the roads getting in and out. Was extremely anxious driving the roads, and twice had to reverse a long way back up a hill because of a tractor coming the other way. I realise it is on a working farm, but this really terrified me and had to make sure was back before it got dark every night because of the roads. Therefore I would not book here again despite liking the place because of the difficulty getting in and out of the roads both ways.
