Brickyard Cottage is a cosy terraced cottage situated on the outskirts of the village of Moreton, near the village train station. The cottage is traditionally built and features cottage style doors and a Rayburn. There is a summer house in the pretty garden along with a small furnished patio upon which you can enjoy the many birds who visit the garden, previous guests have reported spotting a wide variety of species including woodpeckers. Moreton is well known for its church with windows etched by Whistler and it is famed as the resting place of T.E. Lawrence, more commonly known as Lawrence of Arabia. The area surrounding the cottage is `Thomas Hardy' Country and his birthplace at Bockhampton and his home at Max Gate are two local interest attractions. The Frampton Arms Inn is just a stroll away and offers local beers and a variety of meals. Visiting Dorchester, Weymouth and the many surrounding beaches is just a short car ride away. About the Location

Dorchester offers rolling green countryside, alongside all the pleasures of a vibrant market town, with beautiful architecture, an abundance of Roman history and some of the finest restaurants in Dorset. Shopping in Dorchester is a much loved pastime too, with many high street names alongside lovely boutique stores and regular traditional markets.

You can feel the spirit of Thomas Hardy everywhere in Dorchester; this is where he was born in 1840 in the delightful cob and thatch cottage built by his grandfather just a 12 minute drive from the town. This cottage is where Thomas Hardy sat and wrote ‘Under the Greenwood Tree’ and ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’. Visitors can visit Hardy’s Cottage, which is now owned by The National Trust and has barely been altered since his family left.
