“We picked this property because of its location and previous comments about how clean it was.”

However, it looked ok on initial viewing, but compared to our house, it was far from that. We used a whole pack of anti bacterial wipes on the surfaces in the kitchen (oven hob, tray under toaster, fridge, kitchen sides), front room (sofa and single chair, especially down the sides of the seat base cushions, as there was more crumbs than in a bag of a sliced crusty loaf and even sweets down there), bedside cabinets, chest of drawers, shower curtain had black marks on the bottom of it, toilet and ...

However, it looked ok on initial viewing, but compared to our house, it was far from that. We used a whole pack of anti bacterial wipes on the surfaces in the kitchen (oven hob, tray under toaster, fridge, kitchen sides), front room (sofa and single chair, especially down the sides of the seat base cushions, as there was more crumbs than in a bag of a sliced crusty loaf and even sweets down there), bedside cabinets, chest of drawers, shower curtain had black marks on the bottom of it, toilet and basin were all of a poor and unclean standard. We didn’t even use the oven as it was filthy with crumbs in it. This really spoiled our holiday as we were unable to relax in this environment. The water in the basin and in the shower was really slow to drain away and the shower drain back fed causing grime and small hairs to feed back into the shower tray, disgusting. Reading the guest comment book, it appears that this is a continuing problem. The bed wasn’t made properly, the bedsheets don’t fit the bed and there were lots of hairs at the top of the mattress when trying to make the sheets fit better. The window in the front room (which opens inside, so not difficult to clean) was filthy and had bird poo on it. Why were there only four cups, surely a few mugs extra would be useful and save on water by not washing separately or putting the dishwasher on when not full. My solution is to get a new cleaning team that cleans PROPERLY!

We are shocked and disappointed to read your review. We love our holiday home and want others to do as well. We pay the Dream Cottages cleaning company above market rates and therefore expect a high level of cleaning. If only you had contacted Dream Cottages when you first encountered the problems, they would then have had a chance to deal with them and you could have enjoyed your holiday to the full. It's disappointing that you chose to leave the matter without an opportunity for the cleaning staff ( or anybody else) to actually see and sort things out. We note that you specifically chose Portside because it had high-quality cleaning feedback. Clearly, cleanliness is important to you - let us assure you that it is very important to us. However, we feel that some of your comments are harsh or exaggerated e.g. you say " down the side of the seat base......there were more crumbs than in a bag of a sliced crusty loaf" We have spoken to guests that visited Portside both before and after your stay - nobody raised cleaning issues. Nevertheless, we and the cleaning team have taken on board your comments and will endeavour to reach the high standards the majority of our guests experience. Property Owner

The property

Portside is a wonderful, two-story property located in the charming Greenhill district of Weymouth, a few minutes walk to Weymouth's spectacular beach.

For your self-catering stay, this romantic getaway offers a bedroom for two with an en-suite and is conveniently located near local amenities.

Unload your bags and make yourself at home after parking in the off-road parking spot right in front of the property.

The ground level, accessible via the garage, has ample storage for bikes and paddle boards, as well as a convenient cloakroom for freshening up before moving upstairs.

After a day of adventure, return to a contemporary, open-plan living space with attractive décor; prepare a hearty supper for your loved one in the smart, sleek kitchen area, which includes an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer and dishwasher for an easy cleanup!

Set the dining table for two and toast to your coastal hideaway before snuggling up on the sofa in front of the electric fire to enjoy a movie on the wall-mounted TV.

Climb the stairs to a contemporary double bedroom with slanted ceilings and storage space; before retiring for the night, why not finish the day with a relaxing bubble bath?

A convenient en-suite shower room is ideal for getting ready for the day, before heading downstairs to make a hot cup of coffee straight from the coffee maker, while allowing in some fresh air from the Juliet balcony in the sitting room.

There are plenty of shops and cafés around to stock up on basics or take a break from cooking, as well as a sand and shingle beach to paddle in the waves, stroll along with your dog, or see Sandworld's unique sculptures.

Wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy a visit to the SEA LIFE Centre Weymouth, the serene RSPB Radipole Lake, or the RSPB Lodmoor, while the vibrant town of Weymouth is only a short drive away; explore the old Nothe Fort, walk to the sandy beach for a relaxed afternoon in the sun, and explore the colourful harbour with an ice cream in hand.

Put on your walking shoes and head down Rodwell Trail, a disused railway that now serves as an accessible wildlife corridor connecting Weymouth and the Isle of Portland; visit Portland Castle's heritage garden and Tudor kitchen, the 1960s Portland Bill Lighthouse, before stopping for lunch at a beachside café.

Travel north to Dorchester for a lunch in the beautiful Borough Gardens, a visit to the Roman Town House to see the excavated mosaic floors, ending the day with a well-earned pint at one of the town's numerous traditional pubs.

From Chesil Beach to Cogden Beach, be sure to explore the quieter areas of this famed, fossil-speckled coastline of Dorset; meander through old woodlands, untouched heathland, and find lots of sandy sites to enjoy fresh sea air.

Book your stay at Portside for the perfect romantic coastal getaway.
