Waters Edge

This is the 3rd house in the smallmouth beach area we have stayed in and its by far the best!

The views are breathtaking, the house immediately felt like home from home it has such a welcoming vibe. Lovely garden area, balcony and good facilities. Big thanks to the owners for sharing this absolute gem of a place with us. We sadly found you are booked already for next summer, no surprise really, but we are hoping to be back for summer 2028.

Such a lovely property, in a great position, handy for a regular bus service. Great place for walking our dog, he loved sitting on the balcony watching everyone go by.

We had a fantastic stay at Waters Edge, Wyke Regis.

The property boasts stunning views and is perfectly located, just a short walk from Chesil Beach and its wonderful bird sanctuary. It was the ideal base for relaxing and exploring the local area.The only improvement we would suggest would be replacing the standard bin with a wheelie bin, as this would be a little more practical during longer stays.We loved our time here so much that we've already booked another 10-day stay for next year – which says it all! Highly recommended.

A lovely property with a wonderful view and lots of things to do with a dog.

The house had everything you could possibly need. Our only comment is that the master bedroom had enough room for a king size bed which would have added an extra touch of comfort.

Opening the curtains to such a lovely view, even though we had mixed weather of rain, we still enjoyed our stay. Beautiful area. Very quite, very near a small beach area, great for our dog. The Rodwell walk that goes in front of the property is a lovely walk into Weymouth, approx 2 miles. The lounge area is so nice with comfortable sofas, view and veranda. The under floor heating was a treat coming in from the cold, and the dinning area was also very nice. Although chairs very wobbly. The issue I would say for us was the kitchen, although having everything you needed, it was a little dated and in need of a "deep clean" the fridge smelt damp, and the bin was mouldy. We also had a problem with the shower not draining, but that was sorted promptly by the team, and while there, sorted another issue, all handled quickly. Which was excellent. We would definitely come again.

Fantastic house with amazing location and views over harbour.

Very comfortable and fully equipped. Very surprised in current times that no waste recycling stream available. Other properties in the estate had so council provide. Had to bring waste home !

Wow what a location!

Open the curtains out onto the sea is the best feeling there is. We had a fantistic break away and Waters Edge had all the faclities we needed to do this. Situated just outside Weymouth it was prefect for a peaceful relaxig holiday near enough to everything you need and close enough to travel the surrounding beautiful Dorset coast. We will defintely go back!

Absolutely stunning property with a wow view which we are missing already.

It was a perfect location for a holiday filled with even more perfect memories with Mum and Sister. Remembering Dad as part of him is scattered off Portland Bill and enjoying new places we have never been. Thank you for bringing those memories alive in such a glorious home.

Such a lovely property in a gorgeous location.

My only comments for improvement would be to offer a recycling bin and to fix the ensuite shower cubicle door. I've already booked next year's stay and cannot wait.

Wonderful property with great sea view.

We were blessed with good weather which was a real bonus in March. Lovely walks from the door. We had a couple of issues when we first arrived but Sykes responded immediately and were very helpful.

Enjoyed a lovely weeks stay.

Perfect views & plenty of pleasant walks from the door. Dogs particularly enjoyed walking to Sandsfoot Castle & having good run on the beach - followed by us having a bite to eat at the cafe. Property was clean & well presented & the welcome basket & bottle of wine was appreciated after a 6 hour trip. Also, having a parking place made life a lot easier. Will definitely return again. We loved our stay at Waters Edge.

It's in the perfect position for us. We will definitely stay here again. There are a few issues, they didn't spoil our enjoyment of Waters edge,: The shelf over the sink in the ensuite is a bit impractical, it makes using the small sink very difficult. The plastic shelf on both of the showers makes it difficult to position the shower heads where you need them, especially as I'm only 5ft tall! All the toilet paper holders are loose, needing fixing. No dressing table with seat to do hair/makeup. Plastic top of ensuite shower plug/drain loose/broken, needs fixing. But as I said we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back.

A very well presented property, we appreciated the wine and the basket of goodies.

The only problems we found were the steps in the garden which were rather difficult to see and you need a new dustbin with a secure lid, the remains of a chicken I had wrapped up had been taken out the bin by something!

Fantastic setting with beautiful sea views. Property very well equipped, clean and was a real home away from home. Would love to stay here again in the future and will recommend Sykes cottages to friends and family.

Waters' edge has to be the best holiday let we've had.

Our every need was catered for. There's an abundance of cutlery, crockery & glassware. Just about every kitchen utensil you could possibly need is at hand. Pots, pans, and dishes galore. Did you forget your book? Don't worry, there are a couple of shelves of them there. Even buckets & spades for the kids beach days. A nice clean & airy house with a lovely modern enclosed rear garden. The view from the front of the house is what it's all about though. Even on a rainy day sat in the front room with the patio door open raised our spirits. We had a couple of minor issues on the Sunday. The carbon monoxide alarm became faulty, and after reporting as instructed in the house manual was resolved within the hour. And secondly we found the ironing board to be broken and this was replaced the following mornin

A lovely house with beautiful views.

Well maintained as well. One thing there was no hairdryer in the property. Property was very clean on arrival and a lovely bottle of wine was left for us which was most welcome.

Water's Edge was a fantastic property to stay in.

It was clean and very comfortable, with everything needed for a really nice stay. The views from the balcony are fantastic whatever the weather, and the back garden is also very nicely landscaped. We did have to climb around overgrown brambles coming over from a shared/public area of land across to the front door path. Someone just needs to cut these back so that the path is clear for access. However, that was a tiny issue and everything else was perfect. We have a fantastic week and would certainly recommend and look to visit again.

We stayed at this holiday home 3yrs ago and it has improved greatly since then.

The back garden is now lovely and the house is much improved, the only thing is it could all do with painting, it's only early season so would be rough by end of the year .

This house is a home from home, our fourth visit we like it so much.

Pet friendly with stunning views across Portland Harbour we will be back next year!

Fantastic location, great views, great path right outside for walking, small beach within a 30 second walk. Was going to buy one of these houses when they were first built, gutted we didn’t. Only downside, could do with a kick of paint but would definitely rebook. Thank you.

However the cleaning left a lot to be desired

This was our fourth stay at Waters Edge.

We love a lot of things about this property, the location being our main reason for staying here. However, we were disappointed that we had to report a number of maintenance issues during our stay. Many of them may seem minor, but collectively they became a problem; when staying in a property like this, we do not expect to have to spend time on the phone reporting faults. The issues we had were; problems unlocking the front door to the point that we only used the back door to enter and exit the property. The plug in the bathroom sink got stuck and would not drain. The toilet door on the first floor would not close. Only one of patio doors opened onto the balcony and then leaked during a storm. Also, the outside handle on one of the patio doors was held together with masking tape and did not instil you with any confidence when trying to close it. The lights in the garden were not working. Finally, there was a 'mat' on the floor in the lounge by the patio doors. To say it had seen better days would be generous, it was like a rag and we immediately moved it. We rang Dream Cottages who were very good and made arrangements to visit the property the same day. The sink was sorted and attempts made to sort out the patio door so it could be opened. A new part was required and this was fitted very quickly the next day. Our main disappointment was that when you come away on holiday and pay for a 5 star 'luxury' place to stay, you do not expect to take time out of your holiday ringing the agent to report a number of faults. We could see in the visitor book the issue with the outdoor lights had been reported earlier in the year but the problem remained. Despite the above we had a wonderful holiday, and very much enjoy staying here. We had already booked another week for next year and are very much hoping the owner of the property takes onboard ours and others feedback (noted in the visitor book) and makes some much needed improvements on this lovely house.

This is a well appointed holiday rental,the welcome pack was much appreciated after a long journey.

Everything about our short break was a pleasure,the location, the accommodation,the local facilities,and even the weather was lovely. I would definitely return for another stay without hesitation. Well done

Chose this property due to it's location and view and was not disappointed, the house has all the home comforts plus the amazing view, ideal to sit, relax and enjoy the stunning view from the balcony.

Great to have parking and enclosed garden for the dog, enjoyed walking along the Rodwell trail and easy to get into Weymouth for the beach. We had a lovely week and will definitely be back soon. My granddaughter cried when we left and we all felt sad to be leaving such a perfect holiday home. Look forward to our next visit.

The view was amazing.

Bedrooms and bathroom very clean. The lounge needed a good vacuum on arrival. The property needs some TLC. A previous guest had written in the guest book October 2022 that the fridge collects water in the bottom this is still the case. Under floor heating in dining room and kitchen doesn’t work so it was very chilly. Lights in garden do not work so dangerous if using back entrance .Lounge and kitchen door have big gaps in them so wind whistles through .

We had such a wonderful time and will be back as soon as we can.

Brilliant holiday let with everything you could need, absolutely fantastic location with stunning views and the small beach cove around the corner was fantastic, the Rodwell trail is immediately outside the front door and is a very pleasant walk into Weymouth.

I would highly recommend this property to visitors and if coming back to Weymouth in the future this would be 1st on our list. 10/10

Absolutely top draw magnificent

Waters Edge has the most amazing view over Portland harbour that we have ever seen.

It was relaxing to sit in the comfortable lounge and gaze at the water and look at the ships and sailing boats. We found the property home from home .Everything was in good order and the place was spotless. The sun is in the rear of the property in the afternoon,and the newly decked garden is a real exciting place to sit and read in the sun.The best part for us, a cycling and walking family, was the Rodwell trail.It is wonderful to be so close to this marvellous trail when staying at Waters Edge. The Lidl store at the end of Portland causeway, very near to the property is a great, economical place to shop .Thank you for a wonderful week.

Very comfortable house in a great position - easy to get to Chesil beach , Weymouth ( either by the Rodwell trail or by bus ) and to all points on Portland.

We and our dog were lucky to have a sunny week and enjoyed the views over Portland Harbour from a comfortable modern house.

Another amazing week at Waters Edge.

Spotlessly clean and everything needed is supplied. The newly landscaped garden is perfect. Such good walks in either direction, either walk to Weymouth along the old railway path or in the other direction there is Chesil Beach and Portland. Hardly used the car at all!

There did not appear to be a hair dryer available.

Also no recycling bins available.

Excellent location well equipped and easy access to local amenities and bus routes.

Water's Edge is a lovely warm, comfortable property.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Location instructions and parking simple; plenty of room for a large vehicle. However, some of the kitchen equipment let it down. A milk saucepan, frying pan and roasting pan were well past their sell by date. The condition of these were obviously not picked up by the cleaner’s or the maintenance team. The items were all speedily replaced by the maintenance team when we reported the issue. Likewise the bathroom bath non slip mat was also replaced. We did struggle with the front door lock, using the back door only during our stay. This was noted by the maintenance team but, it appears that it’s security mechanism was a bit too technical for our brains. Overall a lovely property, we will definitely return.

As a family we understand that cleaning the property is of the upmost importance however by moving the time to when you can arrive is disheartening 4pm this year and 5pm 2022 this takes away some of your holiday time and with prices increasing quite a lot if not a little unfair to the holiday maker also I must remember to call in for tea coffee and milk before arriving because I presume it is due to covid that the welcome pack has been removed Having said this it still has not stopped us returning in july 2022 S George Derby

We have just come back from a fantastic week away at Waters Edge.

Fabulous location and the view from the living room is amazing! The house is in a great location for exploring and we'll equipped with everything you need. A real home from home. The owners have covered all basis. We hope to come back again.

Balcony had amazing views over the sea.

Always something to watch. Beach just round the corner from the house was great for my young son, and Castle Cove beach close by too. Really close to the Chesil and Billy Winter's restaurant was great for our young son again, as on the beach. Highly recommended this property. We had a truly wonderful time. Very lucky with the weather! Only thing I'd say is door locks are really quite stiff and it would be good if we could have recycled our rubbish.

The house was lovely and the views from the Lounge and balcony were stunning.

The back garden definitely needs some TLC and the back door has dropped which made it very difficult to open and lock. We really enjoyed our holiday.

Great views and walks.

Property very well presented and very comfortable. Could do with some additional mugs, and the back garden path being upgraded to avoid muddy patches as this is the main access from the car/drive to the property. One broken chair on the balcony also needs to be replaced. Lovely to be able to take two dogs. Hope to stay again.

Wonderful house along the sea front on the Rodwell Trail with breath taking views of Portland harbour.

Sitting on the balcony watching the world pass by is bliss. The open layout downstairs is a great improvement making dining an improved experience. The house is an ideal with pub,shop and cafes/restaurants all within easy walking distance.Highly recommend Billy Winters! Small Mouth beach 5 mins walk great for families. We love this area and thoroughly enjoyed our weeks vacation!

Love this house so much, our 2nd visit, again, thank you for another lovely stay, even better this time with the new refurb spacious dining area with doors opening onto outside with the sea view and more amazing breath taking sea views from the lounge and balcony too.

Perfect location for coastal walks and visiting places nearby. House is very clean and comfortable and has everything you need. Recommend very highly and hope to return another time.

Booking was very straightforward and the information about the property was very clear.

The house was lovely, very clean and comfortable. High quality throughout and very well-equipped. The house is right on the sea front and has fantastic views from the living room balcony. We loved being able to explore the beach straight from the house and watch the world go by along the path and on the sea!

Great location, and excellent accommodation.

Great views over the harbour from the living, and main bedroom. Only issue is the parking. Theres room for one car in front of the owners garage. Apart from that everything was brilliant.

The location of this property is superb and the view from the lounge window is a real treat even if it is wet and windy outside (it was February!

). The house is well set up with everything that you would need and the comfort level is really good. Overall, highly recommended.

Fabulous position with uninterrupted views of the harbour.

Right on a disused railway track into Weymouth with the coastal path to the west just across the road so walkers were well served. Attractions nearby included Portland Bill, Abbotsbury, Maiden Castle and Dorchester. Only 9 minutes into the centre of Weymouth with its quay, castle, Nothe Fort and shops and cinema. Great spot for a holiday.

We wanted a holiday that enabled us to do lots of walking and have a comfortable base, we got both of these things.

The view was lovely, and it was very peaceful because it wasn’t on a road with any passing traffic.

The furnishings were a good quality and very comfortable.

What an excellent location, it was amazing having the balcony to sit out on and watch the World go by.

Unfortunately the house is in need of a lot of TLC, especially the en-suite off the main bedroom. I would still recommend people to stay but we were slightly disappointed having paid a lot of money that the spec throughout wasn't of a higher standard, essentially you're paying top money for the view. The house is ideally located to walk in to Weymouth one way, and Portland the other, both about 2 miles. To walk to Weymouth you can take the longer route of the Coastal path, or go straight down the old railway line. There's a great beach bar called Billy Winters about a 10 minute walk across the bridge to Portland, and a superb restaurant called The Crab House Cafe just across the road before you head over the bridge. For dog owners you can get down to the beach opposite the house, and there's a small sandy cove a 2 minute walk round the corner, our dog was in heaven every day! We had an excellent week and really didn't want to leave. Oh and thanks for the welcome gift!

A few electrical items needed attention.

1. The first floor toilet light flickered when switched off. 2. The top floor extractor fan in the bathroom came on when the adjacent en suite shower room light was switched on.

Another fantastic holiday booked with dream cottages

The house was lovely with wonderful views of the harbour.

Great location for exploring the area. I tried to contact dream cottages to report an intermittently working light pull in the first floor toilet but after waiting 15 minutes for the call to be answered I gave up.

When the weather is cold and wet as last week was the heating was switched off for the summer and there did not appear to be any heating back up.

As we are senior citizens with serious health issues, sitting about in the cold is not very comfortable or advisable. Also this is the first holiday rental in 30 years where there was no hairdryer, so had to go and purchase a new one!

The location is the number one plus point of this house.

Water's Edge is ideally located with beautiful views over Portland Harbour ( especially from the balcony) and on the Rodwell Trail which takes you directly into Weymouth (approx 1 hour level walk.) There is also a little inlet with small beach only 2 minutes walk away. These factors made it ideal for us with a dog who loves swimming. It is also a very comfortable and well furnished house. I would highly recommend this property for a great holiday.

Waters Edge was a delightful property to stay in - perfect for our Christmas holiday with the family. Well equipped, warm, roomy, good quality furnishings - couldn't have wished for more. The Christmas tree plus chocolates and wine on arrival were a lovely treat and much appreciated by all. Will definitely return – stayed December 2017

This is a well equipped holiday home situated right on the Rodwell Pathway over looking the sea. Ideal for those who want a quite holiday but you are close enough to Weymouth either to walk or cycle on the pathway or drive in, we walked the path every day there and back taking in the coastal views along the way. Chesil beach is also close enough to walk to from this property which we did also. Would highly recommend this property. Stayed July 2018.
