“We had a wonderful stay at Chesil Retreat, continuing our Jurassic Coast walking challenge this was an ideal location for us with frequent buses into Weymouth and Portland to get us to and from start and end points.”

The accommodation was extremely clean and comfortable, nice hot shower and comfortable beds perfect after long days of costal walking in the sunshine. Just a couple of issues were the can opener didn’t work! And I think the remote for the tv needs new batteries! Thank you for a lovely stay ☺️ would highly recommend.

“Hi stay LAST YEAR but this year we had to wash all the towels and bedding the very next day as they all smelted very musty and not pleasant.”

DID NOT EXPECT TO DO THIS.Didn’t spoil our holiday .Also the cleaning staff were waiting next to our car at 9.15 asking if we had left the house and could we make sure we move our car by 10am .Yes we were going to move the car cause we were aware we had to be out by 10am

Mrs Archer, we are really sorry to receive your review. We always ask our guests to contact us directly if there are any problems, which would enable us to deal with them immediately. We have only recently changed to a new cleaning company, who as a result of your review we have contacted immediately.. Even though it was out of hours they responded straight away with a telephone call and gave a very different version of events, stating that they met with you around 0945 when you asked if you could use the car parking for a little bit longer to go to the beach, which they tell me they agreed to. Clearly the cleaning company needs to get in and carry out their work before the next guests arrive and we understand that too. It is clear that there has been a break down in communication and quality of service on this occasion,which we do not want repeated and can only apologise for the inconvenience, nonetheless we are pleased you had an otherwise wonderful holiday in our accomodation and look forward to welcoming you back again in 2027 With regards to the 'musty smelling' towels, they state in 5 years of trading they have never received a complaint of this nature (we actually use them for our personal linen too). “This is a great little place to station if you want to enjoy the many activities in and around Weymouth and the Dorset coast.”

Perfect for people partaking in water sports. While some may be put off by being near busy roundabout that leads to Portland Isle, it didn’t bother us; the windows are double glazed and shuts out noise very well. The property is very well ventilated when windows are open and even in hot weather it was fairly cool indoors! You have a parking spot around the back and easily accessible (I also liked the shingled area around the parking spot so that we can easily unload our luggage. The property itself was immaculately clean; felt really clean in every way. The bedrooms are perfect for a small family; whilst the shower takes a while to get used to; there were no issues in anything else. Luckily the owner got in contact with me out of courtesy and they are lovely people. They also gave me another fan for the impending heatwave! You have everything you need at the property and a lot of thought has lovingly been put into making our stay as comfortable as possible. The only thing missing were dishwater tablets but I bought some down Road at Lidl which was perfectly located for us! I had a little issue with booking the property originally with booking.com but I then booked it directly through Sykes. I’m glad the owner checked in on us; as they helped resolve a couple issues for me in terms of booking…! All in all this place is really good value for money, and perfect for small families (there’s a small beach nearby for kids to paddle in too), and of course you have Chesil beach nearby and you can watch some amazing sunsets from Portland Isle down the road! I would definitely stay here again should the opportunity arise again int he future.

“I would highly recommend this property.”

It is well equipped with everything needed for your self catering holiday and was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The conservatory an added pluss. It's location is ideal as it offers a lovely walk along a disused railway which has been converted into a pedestrian and cycle track. Also being located on a main road gives good access to the local busses. All in all no quibbles. Thank you Julie

“I would never have booked this property if it had been clear from the description that it fronted onto a roundabout which is on a very busy main road.”

The road is busy twenty four hours a day and extremely noisy. Despite double glazing it was noisy inside and if it had been hot the bedrooms would have been suffocating. Fans were provided but that would not have been acceptable to us. Secondly the situation of the property is extremely windy as it’s right by Portland Harbour. Otherwise the property is well equipped and comfortable.

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad that you enjoyed the outstanding facilities that we provide and the ‘home from home’ experience we aspire to achieve, many of our repeat guests love the fact that we are situated on the main thoroughfare, between Portland bill and Weymouth as highlighted in the information provided - the only road onto the Island of Portland, with Chesil beach and the Jurassic coastline only a few hundred metres away. Chesil beach faces the prevailing westerly winds and as such yes, we do get those prevailing winds, drawing in windsurfers and sailors from across the world. Luckily we have smallmouth beach only a few minutes away which is sheltered and perfect for those that choose to bathe in the local waters. We are sorry that the weather was not on your side on this occasion, but we would gladly welcome you back in the future to enjoy our beautiful location. Property Owner

Very close to a small beach and great cycle path. Good rear access for sporting equipment. There is road noise at the front of the house but very peaceful at the back. Bus stop across the road for easy access to town. Would recommend.

“Overall the property was good and had everything we needed.”

The location was not what we were expecting as it was by the roundabout on the only road onto Portland which resulted in constant traffic noise which had it been during the summer/ heatwave would have made it impossible to have the windows open. The shower was a little temperamental and kept going from ok to very hot, also the left side of the toaster didn't work. The person in the adjoining house was either drumming or doing work most days for at least 2 hours. It was good that there was a parking space but on occasion when we returned people had parked by the garage making it tight to get into the space,which is a shame. The property had everything we needed but we wouldn't return due to the issues with the road noise as that is something outside of the owners control.

Thank you for your review Mrs Crabtree. We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the location. it is made very clear on the website information and the map as to where we are located. We are just off the main Portland Road, but we are very fortunate to be walking distance to Smallmouth beach, the Rodwell Trail, Chesil Beach and the Southwest coast path with easy access into Weymouth and onto Portland which is what attracts our repeat guests each year. The shower is only 3mths old, we asked the guests about it who came in after you and they didn't report any problems with the shower or the toaster and we actually checked both ourselves upon changeover. We are however, sorry that you had problems with them. There was a new kitchen being fitted in the house on the other side of the walkway and so this may have been the noise you heard and once again we apologise although this was clearly beyond our control. We have never had an issue with the parking space before, so an apology again for this. We know all the residents and this is a very rare occurrence as they all have their own garages and parking spaces. Property Owner

“Having stayed in many holiday cottages/houses over the years, we can honestly say that this is one of the very best!”

! A real home from home. It’s is immaculate in every way, top quality equipment to use in the kitchen, pristine bedding, comfy beds and sofas and the list could go on and on……. The house is in a great location and even though it’s close to a road there was no noticeable traffic noise, there are bus stops close by and a few shops and takeaways of good quality. We would highly recommend this property and a big thank you to the owners.

The owners made us very welcome, and we found the location very convenient, with a bus stop just across the road for Weymouth and three minutes' walk away for Portland. Although we didn't use the nearby beach, we thought its very close proximity (2 minutes) would be a bonus for those with children.

“Our thanks to Julie, we just loved your cosy and spotlessly clean town house, with everything you could want for a comfortable holiday.”

Being only 2 minutes from the Small Mouth beach and the start of the Rodwell Trail, the position was ideal for a short evening stroll to take in the views of Portland and the beautiful coastline. We walked the Rodwell Trail into Weymouth several times, and recommend getting of the trail at Sandsfoot castle, to call at the cafe in the gardens, going down the steps onto Castle Cove, a lovely, quiet sandy bay, and then to continue round via Belle View Road to Brewers Quay and the harbour, or up through the park for lunch at Nothe Fort. Using the regular bus service to return to Wyke Regis was easy. If we visit Weymouth again, we will certainly consider staying at Cheslt Retreat.

With regard to the accuracy of listing, the property as you are aware is within the immediate vicinity of the beach and Portland Harbour at the entrance to a small, bespoke estate called Harbour Point. Chesil Retreat isn't described as being in an isolated or secluded hideaway location. It's position is very clearly marked on the map provided within the ''write up'. Like many other 'holiday lets' in Coastal resorts it is located in a popular and convenient location and has the added advantage of its own dedicated private parking which many other coastal properties do not offer. We are sorry that you were dissatisfied with the positioning of the property, as you can see, the majority of our guests, many of whom are repeat guests are extremely happy to be so close to Chesil beach, Smallmouth Cove, The Rodwell Trail and other amenities as described. The house is beautifully decorated with a well-equipped kitchen perfect for both short and longer stays. The location is great, with a lovely little beach close by, it is a short drive into Weymouth centre or a peaceful walk following the coastal path. We walked in one morning and enjoyed a well deserved breakfast at the palm house. Guest information with places to eat and visit was very useful and the welcome card letting us know about the fireworks was a lovely personal touch. Look forward to staying again in the future!

“What can we say about Chesil Retreat, it was exactly that a lovely retreat.”

There is nothing we can fault about this property. The entire house was cleaned to an exceptional standard prior to our arrival. The owner contacted us prior to arriving and managed to have the house ready an hour and a half early which was brilliant. She also left our 2 young children a colouring book, pencils and some sweets each, not to mention a welcome basket which was a lovely touch. The amenities in the house were perfect and everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The beach accessories also proved a hit with our children. The location of the property was ideal for access to Weymouth and also Portland. We would highly recommend this property for those looking for a clean, well kept home away from home. To put it another way if we decide to have a holiday in Dorset again, this will be the place we will stay.

“This compact property is situated on a roundabout on the only and extremely busy road to Portland / Portland Bill.”

It is thus very noisy except for a few hours in the early morning, making it impossible to sleep with the windows open in the second bedroom. It also detracted from enjoyment of the outside space at the back iof the house.

Brilliant property Very comfortable beds Spotlessly clean Good location, though traffic noise can be heard Our only negatives…and this is just constructive criticism… - not enough room in bathroom to hang 3 - 4 towels, to dry them - would be good to either move wardrobe or have an extension socket so socket is nearer to mirror in main bedroom - to facilitate leaving by 10:00 am on departure day & to ensure thorough hygienic cleaning of crockery etc used that morning, it would be useful if dishwasher could be loaded and left to clean on departure

Thank you for your kind feedback. We know you had a very restful sleep as you asked for the details of our beds which was lovely. Regarding drying of towels, we provide a washing line for when the weather is dry and an airer (in the cupboard) for the wet days which can be left in the conservatory while guests are out. We will have a think about the wardrobe and hairdryer situation as it's the first time anyone has ever raised it as an issue. Lots of our guests as they are leaving, fill the dishwasher and leave it on so all the items are cleaned so this would never be a problem. Kitchen has great appliances and has the required equipment to cook any dish. Really appreciated the treats left for us. Lovely conservatory but too cold to sit in at this time of year. Easy drive to Portland and 3km walk to Weymouth along a trail. Disappointed about no sea view.

The location of the property is equally fantastic as close to the beach, local amenities and some eateries. Weymouth centre is within a 20 min walk & the South West Coastal Path is on the doorstep. Would have liked a few more basic provisions in the kitchen such as tin foil, a small frying pan, and rinse aid plus salt for the dishwasher as we couldn't get it to operate. Hob a little tricky to use. Enjoyable stay despite the weather

The property is very well equipped with quality furniture, fittings and is tastefully decorated. Designated car parking space is big plus for us. The location is great only a few steps to the beach. Jools was so helpful with places to eat and places to visit. The house is lovely with everything you need. Perfectly clean and everything you could want. Loved using the conservatory on a rather wet bank holiday Monday. Minutes walk from the sea front with seats to just sit and watch the world go by and in the other direction there’s a small sandy area where kiddies and use the buckets and spades left in the box in the garden. Would definitely recommend the house again, in fact we have already and will return really soon.

Chesil Retreat, a well-equipped two-storey house, invites families seeking to holiday in this well-known Dorset location, escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Wash off the sand in the garden after spending the day at the beach before relaxing in the luxurious living/dining room, turning on the TV, or retreating to the conservatory for a quiet book.

If you don’t fancy eating out at the local beach bar or seafood restaurant minutes from the house, your appointed chef can whip up their favourite recipe in the fully equipped kitchen.

Rear doors lead out from the conservatory to the enclosed back garden with decked area, table and chairs ideal for some ‘al fresco’ dining.

Choose between two tastefully decorated bedrooms as night falls; the master features a luxury king-size bed while the luxury twin beds are a terrific option for both adults and children.

You will be able to park your car and explore Weymouth and Portland on foot for the length of your stay because everything is so accessible.
