    “Nice place.”

Modern conversion, tastefully completed, quiet location. Not a huge property but definitely good for 2 (+ dog). Easy parking. The village is nice as well and close to lots of walks, other villages, pubs etc.

The property

Situated in the grounds of the historic, Grade II listed King's Old Rectory, North Cottage (one of two superb holiday cottages at this location) offers guests the opportunity to stay somewhere quite exceptional.

Situated deep in the heart of South Wiltshire's magnificent Chalke Valley, where the sparkling River Ebble flows towards the cathedral city of Salisbury, a stay at this outstanding cottage will definitely live on in the memory.

Recently the property has undergone a painstaking and no-expense-spared refurbishment, where the owners have ensured the period features are mixed with modern touches, to create a truly beautiful holiday home.

We love the understated taste and style that are evident throughout the interiors.

The Old Rectory was once handed over to Henry VI as part of the endowment of the newly founded King's College Cambridge.

Centuries later, in the 1900s, the house was visited by many well-known literary figures of the time including the poet laureate, Robert Bridges and the author Thomas Hardy.

The Hollywood actress, Greta Garbo is said to have been photographed by Sir Cecil Beaton sitting on the bridge over the Ebble in the Rectory's garden! Please note: The cottages can be reserved individually with their own private entrances and gardens but if booked jointly they are perfect for larger groups of up to ten guests who will be able to make use of South Cottage's large, convivial dining area.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.
