Way's Forge was a working forge run by five generations of the Way family dating back to the 1830's.  The property has now been sympathetically renovated into a comfortable home, whilst still keeping its original character and charm. As with many traditional village smithys Way's Forge is conveniently located on the village high street and is only yards from the excellent Thimble Inn with its lovely streamside garden and delicious food. Situated in the picturesque village of Piddlehinton within the admired Piddle Valley, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. The village includes a pretty church and the Millennium Green with children's play area and picnic tables. You can enjoy delightful walks using the wealth of footpaths and bridleways nearby.  Cerne Abbas, overseen by the legendary Cerne Giant is a short drive away and the county town of Dorchester is around 5 miles away and has a great combination of shopping, Restaurants, Cinema, historical and visitor attractions. A joining Dorchester is the new and innovative Poundbury, with it's boutique shops and delicious foodie scene.  Take your pick from the beautiful nearby beaches, the long sandy beach, traditional Punch and Judy shows and donkey rides of Weymouth, or the more secluded Ringstead Bay are both around a 20-25 minute drive from Way's Forge. Pretty Lulworth Cove and the geological wonder, Durdle Door, are both under 20 miles from the property, pack a picnic and spend the day exploring these stunning spots on the Jurassic Coast.

Accommodation: Open plan kitchen, lounge dining area.  Cloakroom with hand basin and toilet.  Open tread stairs with a turn to first floor.  Bedroom 1, kingsize double bed with flat screen TV with DVD.  Bedroom 2, single bed.  Bathroom, bath with shower over, hand basin and toilet.

Services in addition to standard: WiFi, Underfloor heating.  Washing machine, small fridge / freezer.  Flat screen TV and DVD.  Log burner with kindling provided.  Cot. Bed linen and towels inclusive.  Welcomes 2 dogs.  Off road parking. Outside garden with mown grass area, garden table and seating and potted plants.

Mr J Green
We very much enjoyed our holiday in your lovely cottage, so cool in the hot weather and well appointed. We found some super walks with our dog George, particularly the bluebells on the walks near to Thomas Hardy's birth place. Thanks for everything – Stayed May 2018

Mrs J Newson
What can I say? Absolutely perfect from start to finish. Cottage is fantastic, loved it so much and felt at home instantly! Location brilliant, lovely walks with dogs and days out to Lulworth Cove, Studland and Upton Country Park. Thimble Inn, The Blue Vinny and Sun Inn – All gorgeous pubs with fantastic food! Cottage the best of all though, so cosy and beautifully renovated. Will definitely recommend to others. – Stayed April 2018

Miss E Hathway
Wow what can I say? We absolutely love what you have done with the old Forge. It's beautiful. So our stay was going to consist of coastal and rural walks, however storm 'Emma' and all the snow put pay to our plans. BUT where better to be snowed in than this beautiful little cottage in a lovely village with such friendly neighbours, one of which during the power cut brought us candles just in case the power was not restored by nightfall! It has been a restful break away (both of us working for the NHS at this busy time) we will most definitely be back hopefully during more amenable weather! Thank you. Stayed February 2018

Mr M Wood
We very much enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It was the perfect place for the first holiday with out 6 month old Schnoodle! The cottage is in a great location and with the weather being glorious all weekend we have been able to see lots of the stunning coastline. Had a meal on the Saturday at The Thimble where we were able to take the dog. Really nice food and pub generally. Great stumbling distance as well. Stayed February 2018

Mr B White
We loved our relaxing stay at Way's Forge! It felt like home from the moment we arrived. (thank you so much for the delicious chocolates & biscuits!) The forge really stood out to us when looking up places to go, and it didn't disappoint. It has been beautifully renovated to such a high standard and has such a lot of character – we will be recommending it to everyone! We particularly loved the underfloor heating, especially our little sausage dog Molly! Thanks again, we hope to be back soon! Stayed February 2018

We have had a really lovely stay at Way's Forge, it has been home from home. We have never visited Dorset before and this has been the perfect base, the countryside is so beautiful and seems to go on forever. It has been a really good break and hope to come back one day. Thank you for the goodies, take care and all the very best - Stayed June 2016.

About the Location

Dorchester offers rolling green countryside, alongside all the pleasures of a vibrant market town, with beautiful architecture, an abundance of Roman history and some of the finest restaurants in Dorset. Shopping in Dorchester is a much loved pastime too, with many high street names alongside lovely boutique stores and regular traditional markets.

You can feel the spirit of Thomas Hardy everywhere in Dorchester; this is where he was born in 1840 in the delightful cob and thatch cottage built by his grandfather just a 12 minute drive from the town. This cottage is where Thomas Hardy sat and wrote ‘Under the Greenwood Tree’ and ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’. Visitors can visit Hardy’s Cottage, which is now owned by The National Trust and has barely been altered since his family left.
