“St John’s View proved to be a lovely comfortable, clean house.”

It’s quite traditional but roomy, warm and so well equipped.  We really enjoyed our time here – lots to see and do. We especially liked Fancys Farm (for the children), Portland Bill and the old nature reserve and sculpture quarries It was good to have a drive for the car as there rarely seems to be parking spaces available on the road.  Next time, we’ll come in the summer so we can also enjoy the large grass area in the secluded garden!

The property

St John's View is a modern detached house with sea views located on the rugged and wild Dorset coastal Isle of Portland, which forms part of the Jurassic Coast, the world heritage site. The property is an unusual two storey house over ground floor and lower ground floor sleeping up to four people in two bedrooms that are all on the lower ground floor. The king size master bedroom boasts an en-suite shower and there is a separate bathroom with bath and separate shower on the lower ground floor for your convenience. Relax on the rocking chairs in the master bedroom to read a book, or step outside to the large grassed area with outdoor furniture from the bedroom for some relaxation in the sun.

The traditionally furnished sitting room on the ground floor is spacious enough for everyone to enjoy a nice afternoon or just spend the evening after dinner by the fire. Around a five minute walk from the property will take you to Chesil Beach, a famous pebbly beach which stretches for 18 miles to West Bay.

Here you may choose to watch the fisherman as the waters are rich in seafood, stroll along with beach for as far as your energy takes you, or just sit and enjoy the sea views and surrounding cliffs.

Circling the whole Isle of Portland is a coastal walk which is perfect for the more adventurous.

For those wishing to explore on a smaller scale, do visit Tout Quarry where you can wander among unique stone carvings in a disused quarry now boasting in summer many rare and common butterflies.

Portland is a haven for wild birds, which inhabit the many inlets and coves, do bring binoculars so you spot the many different breeds.

For avid birdwatchers, one of the lighthouses on the isle was turned to Portland Bird Observatory and Field Centre, so is well worth a visit. Take a tour of the iconic Portland Lighthouse Bill and stop at the Lobster Pot for a crab sandwich or cream tea.

St John's View is very conveniently located for The National Sailing Academy and the surrounding seas; popular with all kinds of water sports enthusiasts.

The major seaside resort of Weymouth with its traditional family attractions is an easy drive or bus journey away. For couples or a small family looking for a modern holiday home in a unique place St. John’s View is a perfect choice.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £150.
