Knowlton Church<\/h3>\n

Knowlton Church, located on the outskirts of Wimborne, is said to be one of the most haunted locations in Dorset<\/a>. Built in the 12th century, Knowlton Church is surrounded by Neolithic earthworks, associated with prehistoric rituals. A visit to the haunted church ruins will find you in one of the most atmospheric places in Dorset, surrounded by an enchanting aura.<\/p>\n

Paranormal investigators have recorded multiple unexplained phenomena at Knowlton Church, including the sense being engulfed in swirling white mists and the haunting church has has reports of ethereal voices surrounding them.<\/p>\n

Dorset\u2019s Abandoned Village of Tyneham<\/h3>\n

Tyneham was abandoned suddenly in 1943, during World War II, as the village was needed for armed forces training. A letter was issued, giving residents just 28 days to leave, before Tyneham became a deserted ghost village.<\/p>\n

Paranormal investigators have recorded whispering voices, unexplained screeching and even stones being thrown at them. Time really has stood still at Dorset’s abandoned village, Tyneham. You can even see school books left open on desks and an old phone box still standing. The old phone box fuels rumours of the village being haunted, as several people have reported hearing it ring on occasion.<\/p>\n

Thought to be one of the most haunted locations along the South Coast is Nothe Fort, Weymouth<\/a>. The impressive fort, located at the entrance of Weymouth Harbour, was built between 1860 and 1872 in order to protect the Naval Harbour at Portland.<\/p>\n

With reports of eerie whistling, air raid sirens and even ghostly spirits walking up and down the terraces, it\u2019s no wonder Nothe Fort has been voted as one of the spookiest locations in Britain.<\/p>\n

One of Dorset\u2019s finest Tudor Manor Houses is Athelhampton House<\/a>. The manor house, situated approximately 5 miles east of Dorchester<\/a>, is regarded as one of the top ten most haunted houses in England.<\/p>\n

Athelhampton House, the location of Most Haunted\u2019s first-ever sleepover, is home to eleven hair-raising ghosts. The Hooded Priest is often seen walking through the Great Hall, whilst The Martyn Ape can be reportedly seen staring at you in The Great Chamber or heard scratching behind the panelling\u2026<\/p>\n

Corfe Castle<\/h3>\n

The ruined fortress of Corfe Castle, Corfe<\/a> is a much loved National Trust property in Dorset<\/a> and is\u00a0home to many ghost stories and reports of unnatural phenomena.<\/p>\n

During the English Civil War, Lady Bankes defended Corfe Castle<\/a> but was betrayed by one of her own. The Parliamentary soldiers destroyed the magnificent castle and left it in a hollow shell of ruins, which remain today.<\/p>\n

Ever since the destruction, a headless woman in white is said to haunt the castle remains. The headless woman, thought to be the one who betrayed the Bankes, has been known to set a shivering shade upon those who encounter her.<\/p>\n

Famous Dorset Ghosts and Ghouls<\/h2>\n

Lawrence of Arabia<\/h3>\n

\"Lawrence<\/p>\n

Probably one of Dorset\u2019s most famous ghosts is Lawrence of Arabia, the ghost of Colonel Thomas Edward Lawrence. Residents near Clouds Hill, Wareham<\/a>, often hear the distinct haunting sound of his Brough Superior motorcycle, before the noise comes to an abrupt stop.<\/p>\n

Colonel Thomas Edward Lawrence was sadly involved in a fatal motorcycle accident in 1935, whilst driving to his home at Clouds Hill<\/a>. He apparently came across two errand boys, riding bicycles and when he swerved to avoid them was thrown over the handlebars.<\/p>\n

Five days before his death, Lawrence wrote a letter expressing his love for Clouds Hill, stating that \u201cIt is an earthly paradise and I am staying here.\u201d True to his word, the ghost of Lawrence of Arabia has been seen multiple times by visitors of Clouds Hill.<\/p>\n

The Shadowy Man of the Bincombe Tunnel<\/h3>\n

\"Bincombe<\/p>\n

The Bincombe Tunnel cuts through the Dorset hills on the Weymouth to Dorchester trainline. Multiple train drivers, travelling through the tunnel have reported hitting a shadowy figure.<\/p>\n

Yet, when the police arrived to investigate, there was nothing found. It is said that the tunnel is haunted by a man who was tragically hit by a train on his way home in 1987.<\/p>\n

The Old Woman of Weymouth Promenade<\/h3>\n

The Weymouth promenade is said to be haunted by a nasty old lady, who \u2018reeks of death\u2019 and sits on one of the corner seats of the promenade.<\/p>\n

A man reportedly witnessed the ghost of The Old Woman of Weymouth sitting along the promenade, in the same location that his Fianc\u00e9 then rested a few days later. His Fianc\u00e9 then tragically died the next day, with the hostile spirit of the Old Woman of Weymouth to blame.<\/p>\n

The Grey Lady of Lulworth<\/h3>\n

During a devastating fire that gutted Lulworth Castle<\/a> in 1929, one of the firefighters heard a fearful cry from the top of the castle and saw a woman in one of the tower windows. The firefighter bravely tried to rescue the lady but discovered that the floor of the room that she was standing on had collapsed hours earlier.<\/p>\n

It was then that the firefighter realised he has seen the ghost of the Grey Lady, a phantom who has been thought to haunt Lulworth Castle for many centuries.<\/p>\n
