Location<\/h2>\n

The Castle is perched at the top of a cliff overlooking Church Ope Cove. It offers unrivalled views of the Jurassic Coast<\/a>, the UK\u2019s first Natural UNESCO World Heritage Site, stretching towards Durdle Door. While being secluded it\u2019s a stone\u2019s throw from the beach, perfect for sea swimming. On the doorstep, there is also the main bus link to Weymouth.<\/p>\n

Just a short while ago, I was lucky enough to enjoy a luxury stay at Pennsylvania Castle<\/a>\u00a0the night before my wedding. We had the most incredible time hosting our close friends and family. The sun was shining, bubbles were promptly popped and glasses clinked.<\/p>\n

We gave friends a guided tour of the prestigious property, now owned by Colonial Leisure Ltd.\u00a0Prior to that, it had been a family home and a hotel \u2013 Debbie Harry \u201cBlondie\u201d even owned it at one point.<\/p>\n

That evening we enjoyed a BBQ, located on the patio, overlooking the English Channel. The moon was full, as were we, with copious amounts of fresh meat, fish and salads enjoyed and washed down with celebratory fizz. The following morning saw a lazy breakfast with my bridesmaids on the patio in 30 degree heat.<\/p>\n

Castle throughout History<\/h2>\n

There are several amazing stories about the Castle and one that we had much delight in sharing was about the Drawing Room. This room showcases an octagonal table which played a historic part in the final preparations for the D-Day invasion.<\/p>\n

King George VI, Prime Minister Winston Churchill, Free French Leader General Charles De Gaulle, and General Dwight Eisenhower gathered around the table to finalise their plan of action. \u2018Sylvania Castle\u2019 is also mentioned various times in Thomas Hardy\u2019s famous novel \u201cThe Well Beloved.\u201d<\/p>\n

Castle Highlights<\/h2>\n

The Castle has 9 beautiful bedrooms which overlook the grounds and many, the sea. Overall it sleeps 20 people. In the off-peak season, the Orangery transforms into an indoor heated swimming pool.<\/p>\n

The biggest room and the one I stayed in, The Orpheus Suite, hosts an emperor size bed along with a free-standing roll-top bath which faces out to sea, along with an en-suite.<\/p>\n

There are many amazing reception rooms, perfect to escape with a book and watch the rolling sea and boats floating past.
