Nothing says summer quite like the colourful, celebratory atmosphere of a Dorset carnival. Join the revelers this year and appreciate the spectacle at one of these fantastic events, you won’t be disappointed! Expect spectacular displays, music, fancy dress, dance troupes and plenty of quirky Dorset traditions for good measure!
Here’s our top recommendations, not to be missed!

Dorchester Carnival

17th – 18th June

Kicking off the carnival season, this year’s Dorchester celebrations include a free ‘Party in the Park’ event, to be held in Borough Gardens on Friday 17th June. This will be followed on Saturday 18th by a street fair and the main procession through Dorchester town; this year’s theme is ‘storytime’.

Wareham Carnival

16th – 24th July

A Wild West themed week of great events, including a Scarecrow Competition, Craft and Flower Show and Safari Supper, rounded off by the Grand Procession on Sunday 24th! Book a stay  at one of our Wareham properties and don’t miss a thing.

Swanage Carnival and Regatta Week

30th July – 6st August

For a real festival atmosphere with live music, dancing and events like the Masquerade Magic Night, all topped with a ‘sitcom’ themed main procession, Swanage Carnival is hugely popular with locals and visitors alike! Our Swanage properties offer the perfect base to enjoy the festivities.

Lyme Regis Carnival Week

6th – 14th August

You won’t be disappointed by this fabulous week of fireworks, regatta races, activities for all ages and, of course, the carnival procession, all against the idyllic backdrop of pretty Lyme Regis town and harbour. Stay in one of our nearby Devon cottages and make the most of carnival week.

Bridport Carnival and Torchlight Procession

20th – 21st August

Bridport’s carnival weekend includes a grand procession of floats parading through the town on the Saturday evening, along with a whole host of activities, including a fete and fun fair. On Sunday evening, join the crowds for the traditional torchlight parade from Bridport to West Bay; around 1500 flaming torches are carried in the procession from Bridport to West Bay, where the night is concluded with live music and fireworks.

Weymouth Carnival

16th – 17th August

Weymouth Carnival never fails to bring a buzzing atmosphere to the town, and is a high point for any summer holiday! 2016 will be the first year Weymouth has held its carnival event over 2 days, meaning even more to look forward to! On the agenda for 2016, as well as the main parade, will be a torchlight procession to raise money for charity and an impressive motorbike cavalcade.
