Activity Breaks in Dorset

As we all know, Dorset is a great place for exploring and running wild in the great outdoors. With its pleasant countryside and beautiful seaside, as well as its fascinating geographical landscapes, there really is no better place to have an activity break than Dorset.

Whether you are a pair of active adults on a thrill-seeking adventure or a family with the aim of getting out and about (and down with the kids!), Dorset can offer you the perfect activity break.

Check out the following ideas for a sporting or simply hands-on activity break in Dorset:

Jurassic Coast Activities

Fancy kayaking through the Durdle Door on the beautiful turquoise Dorset seas? Jurassic Coast Activities are the only company in Dorset permitted to do just that! Or if you are feeling particularly daring, why not try coasteering through the caves, tunnels, jumps and climbs of the Jurassic coast?
Jurassic Coast Activities also offer cycle hire with guided and unguided cycle tours. They have a good sized bike for every member of your family or group and tagalongs for the kids. Soak up the glorious Dorset countryside, cycle the South West Coastal path and all the while exercising in the fresh sea air!

Sailing and Windsurfing in Weymouth

Owing to its involvement in the 2012 Olympics, Weymouth now boasts world class sailing facilities, in the form of Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy. As well as offering hoist and storage services for the more seasoned sailors, there are also options for beginners to get a first class introduction from the Andrew Simpson Sailing Centre, who offer courses for both adults and children.

If sailings not for you, why not try your hand at windsurfing? The OTC Windsurfing School caters to all abilities using the very latest equipment. Its location means that it is exposed to the best wind statistics on the south coast, so there really is no better place to get started!

West Bay Canoes

West Bay Canoes Ltd is a family run business that have a true passion for paddle sports! They love introducing families and individuals to the exciting sport of canoeing. They provide sessions of a duration of 1 hour, 2 hours or half a day. West Bay is great for canoeing since it is sheltered from the wind and has very little flow.

A West Bay canoe experience isn’t simply for families though, the company offers the same sessions for individuals and also provides British canoeing courses.

Lesley Waters Cookery School

The Lesley Waters Cookery School is the perfect option for the less-sporting folk out there, but a valuable and enjoyable experience just the same. It is based in the heart of South West Dorset and offers you the chance to participate in 1 day and 2 day cookery workshops, as well as demonstration days, hands-on days and the option to attend evening events.

Lesley Waters is a well-known face that has appeared on TV cooking shows. She also regularly contributes to articles and recipes for magazines.

Gavin Parsons Photography Courses and Workshops

Another option for those that are less keen on sports but gives you the chance to get outdoors and practical in Dorset, the Gavin Parsons Photography Courses and Workshops offer the opportunity for beginners and more experienced photographers alike to participate in a workshop. The workshops run in winter, spring, summer and autumn, and are themed to that particular season. That said, they all teach the same fundamentals of photography.

Each workshop takes place in a lovely location and involves walking through the beautiful Dorset countryside. You can even bring along friends and family that aren’t participating in the photography aspect of the day
