Olympic Cottage is situated on The Officer's Field, a stunning residential development built originally to house athletes during the 2012 Olympic sailing events. The property is located on the edge of the Isle of Portland on the World Heritage Coast in Dorset. With an open plan layout downstairs the cottage is perfect for guests to enjoy cooking, eating and relaxing together. Olympic Cottage is a short walk to the iconic National Sailing Academy where you may enjoy sailing or windsurfing. Alternatively if you prefer a gentler pursuit, you can walk part of the South West Coastal Path which runs right around the island, a favoured location for bird watchers also. Following the route, you will pass stone quarries where traditional Portland stone, used in iconic buildings such as St Paul's cathedral has been excavated. At the top of the Island, the famous Portland Bill light house can be viewed and there you will also find a couple of restaurants / cafes serving refreshments. Local shops are a convenient a five minute stroll away. The traditional Georgian seaside town of Weymouth is just a 15 minute drive (or bus journey) away where the long and sandy award winning beach has a traditional family appeal with donkey rides, trampolines and ice cream chalets.

Mrs C Nicholson
Very clean on arrival. Usually I spend an hour making sure all is clean and fresh, but it was a very high standard. The cottage is very well equipped with quality products. Was our second stay here. Cottage is well placed in Portland. Great to take dogs, as plenty of easy walks nearby, and a useful garden. Lovely place to stay. Stayed June 2016

Mr Jolliffe
Very clean and modern accomodation in a pleasant setting and close to the Portland marina . We would recommend the cottage - Stayed June 2016.

About the Location

Portland is a wonderful holiday destination. It offers arguably the best sailing and windsurfing waters in the world, an abundance of rare wildlife since Portland is a major migrating point for birds, miles of stunning coastal walks, great fishing trips straight from Portland Marina, beautiful beaches, some of which are dog friendly all year around, fantastic pubs and some of the best cream teas in Dorset.

Meander through the pretty villages filled with old stone cottages, cobbled streets, traditional shops and cafes and stop for cream tea and lashings of luscious cake. The main village of Portland is Easton, which sits on the plateau. Then there is Fortuneswell, which lies on a steep hill and was described by Thomas Hardy as being ‘houses above houses, one man’s doorstep rising behind his neighbour’s chimney’. Southwell is another charming village, filled with quaint quarrymen cottages and a village pub in the heart of the village. Park here to access the glorious cliff walks along the South West Coastal Path.
