The property

Lilliput is a quirky detached cottage in a hollow tucked quietly away in the small and beautiful Dorset village of Shipton Gorge. Just three miles from the stunning Jurassic coastline and surrounded by breathtaking countryside, this cottage is an amazing base to explore Dorset on foot, by bike, by car (or by bus from Bridport or Burton Bradstock). For those seeking an ideal country walking base, or explorers of our iconic historic coastline to those who seek the peace and tranquility of countryside and a slower pace of life - Shipton Gorge is a hidden gem.

Even better there's a village pub within two minutes walk of this property. Sleeping up to six people with three well furnished bedrooms, one of which is downstairs and the upstairs ones having quirky sloping ceilings, Lilliput offers a comfortable hideaway from busy town and city life.

With a sunny garden and terrace stocked with beautiful plants, you will be sure to sit back and unwind while listening to the birds. Once you have relaxed and want to explore further afield you can find the picturesque village of Burton Bradstock with the Hive beach a short distance away and just a little further on West Bay with a fascinating old harbour and the extraordinary Chesil beach and Bridport the exciting nearby historic market town. The property welcomes two well behaved dogs but respectfully the owners ask they are not left alone or allowed on the furniture. The nearby eating places such as The New Inn, The Anchor, The Hive Beach cafe are all dog friendly.

There are many more and all offer local food. Those looking for more adventure can try the stunning scenic coast road to Abbotsbury, Portland and Weymouth to the east or going west you can visit Lyme Bay (with its fossil interest), Golden Cap and Charmouth. Those who have National Trust membership may find this an advantage. All this makes Lilliput the perfect getaway at any time of the year for family or a group of friends.

About the location

SHIPTON GORGE

Bridport 2.8 miles; Seatown 7.2 miles; Lyme Regis 13.3 miles.

The village of Shipton Gorge has its first reference in the Domesday Book of 1086. There is no "gorge" but it is an interesting and pretty village with high banked lanes, lovely houses and a community spirit. There are a number of thatched properties as well as listed buildings, one site of special scientific interest, two small woods and a network of public footpaths and bridleways to be explored. It has an early 15th century church tower, a 13th century font and the exterior is floodlit for much of the year making it an important feature of the village both day and night.

Note: not suitable for children under five or those with limited mobility due to the stepped/sloped access to the property via 24 steps from the parking area. There are 2 ponds in the garden.
Note: max 6 people.
Note: dogs are not to be left unattended in the property at any time.
Note: bath is shorter than standard on the first-floor bathroom.
Note: garage 2.4m x 4.8m, plus parking for an additional car in front of garage, accessed a short way along an unmade, unlit road.
